PS3 Upgrade CFW+HDD

Hi, i have a PS3 with Rebug 4.82, but im not sure if is DEX or CEX and i need to change the HDD for another with more capacity, i dont want to clone hdd because is a no sense action because the free space continue to be the same although the new hdd have more capacity.

Im making a backup with the Ps3 tool.
After finish the backup, i can format the new HDD to default PS3 system and restore the backup to a new hdd without lost the Rebug and any data?

My Ps3 have Rebug 4.82 CFW, i can upgrade to a new CFW without lost nothing?
I dont remember how i can make the proccess to upgrade hdd without lost nothing.

What "Ps3 tool" means to you? What kind of backup? If you have in mind system backup, then answer is no, it is garbage. Copy things manually connecting drive to PC (you need to dump ERK first) or via FTP, or via file manager to USB.

After that, change HDD and put on USB CFW which you want o use. If you are on DEX fw and trying to install CEX, it wil be rejected instead of bricking console. ;]

Well, i tried and it work perfectly for upgrade HDD

1º i make a backup with ps3 security copy
2º i format the new hdd with ps3 format tool, the full capacity in the new hdd is available. at this point rebug continue in the system, i was surprised for this.
3º I restored the backup with ps3 security copy.

Now Rebug 4.82 + cobra 8.2+ all games, multiman, sen enabler, etc are in the new hdd
Then i thinking not upgrade CFW because i have the new HDD with full capacity and more free space without lost hack and Is the best hack that i tested, in fact , years a go, i tested Rebug 4.84 DEX, and i downgraded to Rebug 4.82 CEX, for this i have cobra 8.2 with Rebug 4.82, Cobra 8.2 was implemented in Rebug 4.84.2 if my mem dont fail.

But if i want to upgrade CFW i cant use Rebug REX 4.84 or higher? i cant found CEX versions, just REX or DEX and i downloaded 4.84 REX, but not upgraded because i remember some that you comment about the compability of version CEX and DEX and a possible brick.

I still don't know what you have used because you using your own custom names for functions. :P

Official DEX fw functionality for changing internal disks is called HDD Exchange Utility. It works but it is very picky about disks. Official CEX fw functionality for making/restoring backups is called System Backup Utility and it is garbage because not restoring trophies, licenses etc. and nearly nothing on different console.

Last CFW Rebug with hybrid fw functionality was 4.82.2 Rex/D-Rex. Last CFW Rebug, pure CEX was 4.86.1 Lite. Today you can use Evilnat CFWs.

There is no brick risk by trying to install CEX over DEX and vice versa because if wrong TargetID, PS3 will reject to update. Brick risk is when you converting CEX/DEX by old methods.

For back up i used the backup in settings/system settings/backup utility/ back up.
For restore the same, but restore option.
And for format, format utility in settings/system settings/
But im a lot confused because when i active webman mod a little window appear at top right of the screen where say 4.82 CEX Cobra 8.2 (NTFS full)
But if i move to PS3 settings, at bottom of all options i have the option of debug settings with an star, for this im very confused, because webman says is CEX but i have the debug settings of DEX .
And into debug settings is an utility called Format Marlin Personal Data and another option that you say is in DEX called Debug for HDD Exchange Utility.
And now im thinking that my Ps3 have Rebug 4.82 DEX, but im not sure 100%
