PS3 upgrading PSU?

is it worth upgrading the psu from aps-226 to aps-231/aps-227? colder? less energy? my system is a CECHC PAL.

Thr APS231 is slightly more efficient however its much cooler on the CPU as it had a plastic base instead of a metal one

No need. APS-226 is more efficient than APS-231. It's true APS-231 uses less power, but the old systems will strain it more and make it run harder than it's needs to.

Thats interesting, I'm currently in the process of refurbishing a CECHA01. It had a APS231 power supply so the console has had the power supply swapped out at some point.

So is this power supply (231) detrimental to the consoles efficacy and performance? Should it be replaced with a APS227?

No need for APS-227, it's limited to 220V only. 226 and 231 are universal and efficient, but you will be straining the 231 more than the 226 when using it in an A01

APS 226 is mainly used in CECHA's and CECHB's and provides up to 32 amps of load.

The APS 231, if I'm not mistaken, was introduced to the market with the CECHG, which has a lower consumption than the initial ones, and because of that it provides a maximum of 23.5 Amps.

yes, you can use a 231 in an A01, but keep in mind the chance of abrupt shutdowns due to the power supply being less powerful, in addition to that at certain times the power supply will be being forced to its limit.

For example, heavy games like Uncharted 3 running on disk with the fan at 60%, in addition to the control and hd connected to the USB, the source will be at its limit if you don't disarm for safety.

Exactly. For me, I prefer to have more power available on tap especially as stuff wears out.

If it's anything like PCs have more is better as their is a better efficiency curve.
