well, I have a super slim PS3 for a few years with HEN installed (4.85) I don't know what happened or if I I activated some wrong option. It turns on normally, but every time I go over the "games" column it crashes redirecting to recovery mode, i tried to install updates via pendrive but the files do not find. I cannot format it. :'(

Reinstall the HFW

well, i've tried it, but the files don't show on the pendrive (root/PS3/UPDATE) I can't do any configuration in the hen toolbox because when I turn it on it's already in the games part and it restarts instantly

I would do a restore and rebuild via recovery first then try to reinstall HFW. It may also be a bad HDD causing that. If you reinstall HFW do it via recovery but format the drive again using 64k cluster size & fat32. Then ensure your firmware matches the correct MD5 and is named PS3UPDAT.PUP as it seems you have the rest of the naming correct.

It looks like his system is missing an external query in the game category.xml or the whole xml, if the system doesn't find it, it will go straight to the pseudo-recovery menu.

Only re-installing the HFW will solve it.

As @atreyu187 said, make sure your USB drive is formatted in MBR FAT32 and the update file is named PS3UPDAT.PUP.

root/PS3/UPDAT should be the directory of the FAT32 formatted USB storage device in which you have to put the PS3UPDATE.PUP HFW Fw file. As you stated, you created the directory as "root/PS3/UPDATE" and due to the wrong spelling of the directory it was not showing on the PS3.

No, the directory path is exactly as he created, PS3/UPDATE not PS3/UPDAT.

The only problem i could think is his usb drive isn't in FAT32 format or not using MBR table.(GPT does not work)

Oh thanks for correcting me, btw i think that he is only facing the issue cause of the GPT format he is using, as it is easy to format a storage device in FAT32 and anyone can do that but conversion of format form GPT to MBR (and vice-versa) is not easy, since he might not be an advanced user he is unable to understand & thus do it.

EDIT -- Just for knowledge purpose, can the backup loaders mount the games from USB storage device in GPT format (as that allows the use of HDDs >2TB), asking as homebrew added support for exFAT & NTFS so i was thinking if support for GPT may also be available.
