PS3 USB issue on firmware reinstall following reformat

I need to reformat my HDD because the file system is corrupted beyond repair.
My main issue is that last time I've tried to update the firmware (from Evilnat 4.91.2 to 4.92) it just couldn't read the file from the USB disk (failed in the middle of copying the file). I've tried multiple USB disks and it kept happening. I eventually managed to install it by burning it to a CD-RW.
If I reformat and it still can't copy files from a USB disk properly does it mean it's effectively bricked?

If you have set QA flag, you can try lower CFW like i.e Rebug 4.86.1, and after that jumping to Evilnat. For unknown reason, Evilnats are somehow picky with fw (I assuming that user not misleading CEX/DEX fw type, and knowing you, you didn't, but just for info for others).

Worth to check disk S.M.A.R.T to. Maybe he dying.

It's the correct one. I think I might try to use multiMAN to just copy a bunch of large files to see if it works or not.

Btw is it possible to install FW following HDD replacement from a CD or does it have to be USB?
