PS3 webMAN-MOD users: donations needed!

Today I turned on the console to test some changes to webMAN MOD.
The console was idle on XMB and suddenly it turned off. I noticed it a few minutes later.
The power light was completely off. I pressed the power button, it changed to red.
I pressed it again, it turned green but a second later the green light turns off completely then the power button also turns off. The fans sound like try to start, but the console shutdowns too soon. I repeated this procedure like 10 times with the same result even unplugging the power cord.

The eject button beeps even with the power light off.

Is there something that I can do to revive this console? If not, consider it the end of webMAN MOD / IRISMAN projects.

The console is a slim CECH-2501A

I did a fan test unplugging the console and connecting back with power+eject buttons pressed, and the fans worked fine. So it seems to be some hardware issue. :(

You could try changing the hdd, it's a long shot but always a possibility.
Otherwise you could do a syscon diag with uart, it's never been easier, a few solder points, the hardware (if you don't already have it) costs only a few bucks, the software is available.
You should be able to diagnose whether the console is worth repairing or not..
In any case, you might wanna mention the few guys who work in the hardware threads, they might be able to help.

If ever you can't repair it, I am sure we can find a way to get you a replacement.
I dunno, Jason might be able to send you one & I am sure other people have spares that would be more productive in your capable hands.. ;-)
And imho, if it were the case, it would be fair for webMAN-MOD users to chip in under a 100 bucks for a replacement in the first place anyway..
 
although I don't really post anymore, I do read posts here in order to learn new things. anyway, @aldostools , I could give you $15, which is what I intended to give you in the first place. I already gave @Evilnat $15 a few weeks ago. I can't spend too much, because I just bought all the dlc for disgaea 6, monster hunter stories 2, and ys ix on the switch about an hour ago. plus, my hackable switch's screen protector had some sort of imperfection that I hadn't noticed before, so I just bought 9 screen protectors for backups. suffice it to say, I just spent around $100 with another $200 or so that I need to spend on my phone bill and giving money to my mom. I've been good at saving my money though, and there's only one game I want this month, no more heroes 3, which I plan to buy with my $41 card (have about $86 on it), so I could give you the money from that. I just need your email address, and I'll send it through paypal.
 
indeed. I intended to give aldostools $15 before this happened, as you know. I didn't realize until I read another of his posts that he has mentions' notifications disabled, so he probably never saw it.
 
No worries, if it comes down to it, I can create a "wMM donations urgently needed" thread & make it a sticky, we should be able to get enough money given the widespread wMM usage.
deank managed to collect what he needed last time round, I see no reason for wMM to get a different treatment.

Although for the moment I don't think that would help much.
I would still need to find a cheap console with CFW support in good condition and import it to my country.

Unfortunately I sold my spare console to a friend that begged me for it. I sold it to him with the condition to buy it back if I needed. But the fool sold it to someone else one week later. I regret to have trusted on that guy. :mad:

Thanks for the tip. I powered on the console with the hard drive removed, but the issue still happens.

My skills with electronics are very bad and I don't have the tools needed for the syscon diag.

It would be very helpful if I someone could donate a CFW compatible console to continue supporting these projects.

Don't worry.
Second hand consoles are much cheaper than they used to be so even if we cannot find a generous console donor, we should be able to buy one under 100 euros with P&P in Europe.

I did a quick search on eBay, many results, first one in the list for instance:

I live in Dominican Republic :oops: I have a mailbox with address in Florida that I use to receive packages from USA.

@pinky Thank you for the donation. I just received it. So the goal of get a replacement console is $15 closer. :D

Anyway, I think we can get one even cheaper in the US. Lol
 
might depend on the hdd size. I got mine several years ago for $90, and it only had a 50GB hdd. I had forgotten to ask about that when I bought it. I only bought a second ps3, since the first was banned. I'm not even sure what happened to my first system. I think my mom had given it away or something.
 
I changed the title of the thread & made it into a sticky.. Let's see how this goes..
I will create an additional thread if ever we don't get enough donations.

And I will ask Jason privately too, not sure what CFW compatibles he has working at the moment..

that's what I was thinking as well, but I don't know if that would be cost effective to replace. older ps3s are so cheap now that it might be better just to buy a new "used" console. superslims are the only ones I've seen that were somewhat still expensive at over $100 for a 12GB system. those don't come with a hard drive or even a caddie/cage for one, so that would be another expense. you may be right about it being cheaper then.

edit: nm, you could use the same hard drive as the broken system. I had forgotten about that. might just have to buy a caddie/cage for $6 or so.

No. I don't have a spare PSU to test. The console died suddenly this morning and I would have to import these pieces if I would like to test. I could end spending more money trying to fix the console, than get another one.
 
oh my, please do not stop your PS3 projects @aldostools, cause there are not many developers left, actively working with PS3

maybe next month even I can save a few bucks, which I can send you, but no promisses

well, if I was sure, that there isn't some problem with my CECHL, I even would donate you my new Slim, which is perfectly fine for tests, and only has some slowdown problems doing file operations

hope you can find a cheap replacement, where I have paid about 65€ for mine (dunno if this was a good deal though)
 
Well like I said, in all fairness, with all the work Aldo has provided for the community through the years, the least wMM users can do is pick up the tab if they wish Aldo to continue maintaining & updating wMM. Thousands upon thousands of wMM users & we are only looking for 100 bucks ffs.

65 bucks is about the right price I think but it varies between 50 & 100+ depending on model & accessories.
