Western Digital HDD causing problems with OPL

Hello everybody.
Thanks for trying to help me.

I have a fat PS2 model SCPH-39004 PAL with genuine Sony HDD/Network adapter modified with a bitfunx SATA Adapter.
I have also a Samsung HD322HJ 320Gb as internal HDD.
I've installed FHDB v1.965 and OPL 0.9.3 1562 / 2020-08-23
I've installed 91 games with Winhiip and it seems to work as it should.
So evething is OK with that harddrive.

Now, I need more space and I have a spare Western Digital Caviar SE16 model WD5000AAKS-75YGA0 Sata Harddrive (500 Gb).

First attempt :
I destroy PC existing partition with Windows 7 Disk Manager
I format the disk with WinHiip (48bits)
I copy my ISO games with Winhiip from PC disk to PS2 Disk (connected via SATA port, not USB)
I install FHDB and OPL, Lauch OPL to create OPL partition and then copy ART in +OPL

OPL can't load properly games (many games freeze at loading, others freeze after intro/menu...)

Second attempt :
I verify disk with EaseUS partition master. Disk is OK
I format the disk on PS2 with HDD manager
I copy my working Samsung disk on WD disk with WinHiip.
Winhiip copy only games so I install FHDB and OPL

OPL can't load properly games (many games freeze at loading, others freeze after intro/menu...)

Third attempt :
I full format the disk under Win7 in NTFS.
Then I apply this method, step by step :

and I use HDL Batch (HDL Dump) to copy my games on the HD

OPL can't load properly games (many games freeze at loading, others freeze after intro/menu...)

Each time, I try also with OPL official 0.9.3 (2015) with the same results.

Do you know something about incompatibility with some WD harddrive ?

It could also be a incompatibility issue related to the Bitfunx sata board. I had problems with them before, with a 2tb SATA III 2,5" HDD. They seems to be not perfectly compatible with some HDDs, it's not a size only related thing (indeed they have no issues with some 2tb HDDs).

I never had (or heard of) any problem with the maxdiypower board.

Thanks.

OK for Bitfunx because I use HDL Dump for my last attempt with same results.

I'm not 100% sure it is the problem, I never found a HDD not compatible with the Ps2 but there may be.

However I tried (I think 4 or 5 of) those BITFUNX boards years ago. Only one of them worked with the new Barracuda 2tb HDD and only for a couple weeks, then it couldn't read the HDD anymore, but it still worked with other HDDs (i.e. the 320GB Hitachi from the Ps3).

At the end, I took a spare Seagate Barracuda 7200 1 Tb HDD and it works at first attempt !

So there is some incompatibilities with the Bitfunx Sata Adapter.
1 Tb is a biggest than I expected, I think I will copy most of my PS2 collection on it.

Thanks for your help.

I don't understand what You wanted to achieve by formatting fully so many times the drive. PS2 using it's own partitioning scheme and file systems, so all homebrew applications doing the same quick format.

Maybe drive is sleeping or to often parking header. Can be disabled as I remember in it's firmware (via i.e hdparm). But it is just guessing. No one ever figure out why some drives works ok, and others not. Back in the days, there was HDD compatibility lists.
