Hey y'all !
Recently pulled the trigger on a used ps3 phat w/o controllers for less than 40$ (helluva deal if it works ik) since its gonna be delivered am plannin on testing the thang out.
How should i go about testing it?
my last ps3 suffered from the dreaded 8002f1f9 error (truly tragic) managed to fix it but cant fb it ); (long story)so should i look for stuff like that with the ps3 phat? i also heard they're more unreliable.
i wanna take a moment to apologize for the rushed language cuz its midnight and im hungover lol

You didn't mention anything about which specific model did you get. If you can power the console on, pull out the SYSCON logs (you can do it with just software, no need to open the console) and see if there are any critical error on the list like 1001 or 1002 and go from there. The console has not even arrived, so it's too soon to give you tips about what to test.

if im not mistaken if the ps3 turns on i gotta do sum stuff wid the browser and go to ps3toolset.com etc etc to get the error logs right?
(according to dis knowledgeable feller right here) and i should go thru all the error logs with a computer by my side right?
also is it worth it to open the console up (following a guide ofc) and checking for obvious signs of damage and failed repairs? and if it is how deep should i go for someone with little to no experience

P.S: the vid linked above mentioned if the ps3 does NOT turn then id have to go full nerd and do sum complicated shi to go into this "syscon" which is prolly well outside my ability lol so im planning on returning it if that's the case (2) i asked the seller for the serial numb and he replied that he was busy rn and would send me it later :p ill keep u updated then ig

Phats with 90nm gpu will YLOD, sooner or later. So avoid them, only limited edition and BC consoles are worth picking up, or super nice state, NOS. Another issue could rise from NEK/TOKEN capacitors, but is debatable, no data for how long they last in PS3.

You can check gpu here:
