Create a new user profile on XMB. Then login the PS3 with that user to access bgtoolset.
It normally works, but there are cases where not. Read the spoiler for detailed information.
  • Flash Plugin (Enabled, but this one has a few caveats that may need explaining, the good news being that the toolset will detect the issue and let you know how to proceed (if there is an issue), see further explanations below)
    • If ever in the past, you agreed to load the Flash Player plugin when prompted and checked the checkbox "Do not show again", you should have no issue & will never even see the plugin popup.
    • If you never before checked the "Do not show again" checkbox, you will be greeted with a popup asking you to allow the Flash player plugin. If you agree to load the plugin, the PS3 toolset should continue to load. Note that if you take more than 15s to agree when prompted by the popup, you will get a PS3 Toolset warning about the plugin being disabled even if you finally agreed to load the plugin, just refresh the page when prompted.
    • If ever you got the Flash Player plugin popup in the past & selected NO and checked the checkbox "Do not show again", the Flash Player plugin will be permanently disabled, consequently the PS3 Toolset will not be able to load. Unfortunately there seems to be no official way to reset this setting in the browser. The PS3 toolset does have automatic detection of this issue and some instructions are given. Currently the easiest workaround is to create a new user profile on the XMB, when launching the toolset on the new profile, you will be greeted with the browser pop-up asking to allow the flash plugin. However it has been found that in some cases, a new user profile is not sufficient to reset the Flash Player plugin status. I hope that other devs & advanced users will look into this situation while I continue working on new tools, if nobody does, I might end up looking into the problem after the next tool release.

Note that when loading the PS3 Toolset you don't necessarily get the confirmation screen for the Flash 9 player plugin (I will use the acronym "FP" to refer to it in the rest of the post), it depends on previous user actions taken with that screen, the FP might already be enabled or disabled permanently if at some point in the past, while using the current user profile, you checked the "Don't show again" checkbox of the FP confirmation screen.

When the FP is permanently disabled OR when you don't accept to load the FP in the confirmation screen, the swf movies cannot be loaded & the Toolset automatically warns the user with a dialog box inviting to retry loading (refresh the web page in the browser).
If you get that Toolset warning about the FP without ever getting the FP confirmation screen, the Flash player is permanently disabled, you must try the workaround like Aldo explained ie use a new user profile.

When loading the PS3 Toolset, if you don't get any dialog box, warning you about the FP being unavailable & asking you to refresh the Web page, AND the Flash Memory Manager tab & the Userland memory editor tab get enabled after page initialization, the PS3 Toolset loaded successfully, you can safely proceed with your endeavours without having to worry about the Flash 9 player status.

You cannot brick because the Flash player is enabled/disabled, that's a myth, someone totally misunderstood the situation. Without the Flash player enabled, you cannot use the PS3 Toolset at all, never mind brick the console with it.
If you use the Flash Memory Manager (nothing to do with the Flash player, the Flash Memory refers to the contents of the console internal NOR/NAND chip) to jailbreak your console with Strict Mode on, the brick risk factor is 0 on the PS3 Toolset side.
Moreover, to guarantee that the jailbreak operations went smoothly, the Flash Memory Manager always double checks the integrity of the data it writes after writing it, if ever the checksums don't match the checksum of the patch data, the user is warned not to reboot & solve the issue ASAP. To my knowledge, nobody has ever reported seeing that warning yet, proof that the process is totally safe.

In theory, the only thing that could potentially brick your console would be a power cut occurring exactly within that very brief window of time where the NOR/NAND chip(s) get(s) written to. The resulting brick would be partial though & the system recoverable with a hardware flasher.

hmm, the toolset loads without any warnings with an "exploit successful" message
ths ps3 is second hand and i guess that although replacing the hard drive and factory resetting the flash player setting was automatically enabled. i might try again later or just use hen

once again thanks for all your help

Hi, thanks for your answer. I am new to this I just bought a fat ps3 I do not get the prompt either, is 4.9
I am factory resetting now. Is there anyway to jailbreak without flash? like using a hard drive or a different method?

I done everything and I do not get the prompt. is a second hand ps3 I got

You can use the self hosted Flash Writer tool instead of bgtoolset. It doesn't use the Flash plugin. Instead it uses the same WebKit exploit used by HEN (note that this will require you to install HFW first).
