PS1 Will a Gameshark Memory Card for PS2 work with a PS1 and/or PS1 games?

I bought a Gameshark CDX v3.3 for PS1. It arrived today, but as soon as I popped it in and started it up it said that I need to insert a Gameshark Memory Card in order to continue. All the PlayStation Gameshark memory cards for sale on ebay are labeled PS2 cards. Hence why I had to ask. I've never used Gameshark for PlayStation before. I don't wanna have to buy the thing that goes into the PS1's parallel port, because I'd like to be able to use the Gameshark on PS2 as well as PS1.

Google says it is for PSX.

If chip inside is 8MiB (or chips in summary) it is for PS2 for sure. If 128KiB up to 1MiB, it is for PSX.
