Hi, i got my hands on a ps3 fat 4.88 ofw a few days ago, and from what i researched, the only way to install a cfw on it would be through the bgtoolset, i've been trying to access it for a few days, but i just get a blank page with the text "This site is currently under maintenance. Please try again in a few hours...", does anyone know if this is permanent or if it is due to the country im trying to access it from?

damn, i added an "e" on the title,

Same issue, it has been almost 24 hours since I've noticed this error page for the first time. After digging a little deeper on the forum, apparently, @bguerville is having donation issues with the site for funding the next 3-year period, which is due somewhere in October. Might be related.

Last I checked, earlier today, ** ** www.ps3xploit.net > Domain no Longer owned by team** (NEW URL = http://ps3toolset.com) > Domain no Longer owned by team** (NEW URL = http://ps3toolset.com donations amounted to just under 800 bucks, the target being about 1200 as I explained in the other thread.

Also may be worth noting that the owner/Dev is experiencing funding issues with server costs etc...

yeah, i had read about the donation problem, i wouldn't mind donating a few dollars, if i could only get the site to work xD

How much is needed to re host for another 3 year?

He said that in order to cover the main costs, he would need funding in the realm of ~1200 USD as an upfront payment for 3 years. Up until now, he received only ~800 USD in donations.

Now I'm no application developer especially in these niches, I just do dev for websites. But... Wouldn't it be more cost effective to allow the "users" to host these "applications or files" directly from there home network and than instead of going to **ps3xploit.com >Domain no Longer owned by team** (ps3xploit.me =new)/bgtool... we could host the application or files directly from our home computer and than open a port from the ps3 web browser like http://127.0.0.1:9252 (just as an example) and than updates would go directly to github, you could even charge a fee for the application itself to offset the dev cost and time. Like I said I'm no expert so I either sound dumb or just invented time travel lol.

I may be able to throw $200 towards the project, I've never had a jailbroken a ps3 before but I just picked up one last night to give it a shot and noticed the website was down so that's how I stumbled here!

Keep up the good work, very cool project!

Scene contributors don't get enough support from the community that feeds on their contributions, even when they ask for it, everybody is acting as if all the tools and services they use are a given that they can use and abuse without any other consideration, well this is not wonderland, time to grow up.

When we open projects, they get leaked (sometimes before release), rebranded, even sold... When we keep them closed and secure but provide public access, they get attacked, hacked, leaked, rebranded and even the pitiful amount of donations gets leeched because some replace the donation details with their own.

To expand on what I am saying, I am posting this message in a free scene forum BUT there is no such thing as free, someone is fitting the bill here, no forum user ever seems to worry about that, I don't recall a user thread or a user post enquiring about the recurring costs but those exist and have to be met somehow.

The Toolset is a private project made accessible to the public, that has a cost but so far the users have not met that cost, therefore site hosting renewal or closure is in the balance for October.

Of course it would be more cost effective for users if all projects were open source, but cost effectiveness is not the be all and end all of all things, especially when it would only cost users a handful of cents every year if they all donated.
Moreover there's a lesson to be learnt here, and I cannot help but try to teach it to a community which quite frankly has been deaf to its own needs and slowly but surely created a situation where contributors always have to think twice before contributing anything.

well...i don't know about the forum, but imo if you have a tool that provides something other people want or need, at the least you should charge for the costs to keep it running, without mentioning the work you put into it. relying on donations isnt feasible, because most people won't spend money to apreciate other people's work or continuation of said work, not because they don't have the money, just because they'd rather not spend it.

That's exactly what we don't want to do though, make everyone pay, even those who cannot afford it, otherwise no services, no goods.
IMHO that attitude inexorably leads to corporate mentality and soon enough, it won't be about just covering expenses but also about making a buck, until it eventually becomes a commercial venture.
That's how most, if not all, so called charity organisations function and it's their inherent flaw, I mean what is the worst thing that can happen to an organisation fighting against world hunger once it's well established, it's achieving its original goal. LOL
It's the snake eating its own tail, pumping more and more energy to grow without caring any longer about what that does to everyone involved in its community.
Speaking about this, I am reminded of Mother Theresa visiting the lavish HQ of the foundation created in her name, the disgust and incomprehension visible on her face, only then did I realise that the woman was actually genuine but terribly alone.

What the community needs imho is to encourage contributions of all kind, keep them online and free to access, it's not that complicated to organise and not that costly either when you consider our numbers.

The Toolset should be viewed as a private service shared with the community so I would much rather leave the question of hosting renewal in the hands of the community, I don't care personally whether the Toolset site closes down, it's not an obstacle for me, not even bad news, and if it happened, it would be the will of the community and its responsibility, I think I am good with that.

I just find it hard to believe that someone with an internet connection, a computer, and a gaming console can't afford 1 or 2 bucks, but i'm a skeptical person, so there's that...
I do understand your point on organisations and the possibility of becoming something completely different, world hunger is a bad example though xD
Regarding closing down, i would bet 300 million dollars and a million alpacas, that when it does, a lot of people will start to come up with money to help get it back up

Obviously world hunger doesn't compare with the problem at hand here, it goes without saying, but the same principles apply. Once you are feeding on a problem, you become an essential part of that problem, just another bolt...

Of course you are probably right about about people starting to help keep something alive ONLY once they lost it, it's a classic.

I'm new to the cfw stuff and I was gonna start with a fat ps3 I got the other day. I didn't know this stuff was happening... Where can I donate?? I wanna help out soon.

The donations details have always been in the accordion on the home tab of the Toolset.
Here is also a list Aldo compiled recently, the Toolset (** ** www.ps3xploit.net > Domain no Longer owned by team** (NEW URL = http://ps3toolset.com) > Domain no Longer owned by team** (NEW URL = http://ps3toolset.com) is in there.

I think this is a poor way of looking at your work imo, you have achieved something beyond the average, that average consumers can use. Sure you can accept donations but as mentioned before you will never receive them until the project is in jeopardy, it's either open source or paid app.

Regarding your statements about exploiting the application, this is common and there for you will always experience this issue. I mean your program is an exploit of another software for example. To combat this I've worked with another friend / dev of mine and our project and we've implemented a software "key" that expiries every 24hrs and there fore if the software is replicated or exploited it renders no result as the key does not match on our server side

I would make this a paid feature if I were you to combat the cost of the server hosting as well as compensation for your time and dedication. This is your project do how you prefer but saying that if the project fails it doesn't matter is a poor attitude towards your accomplishments and shows a lack of passion for your work.

The ** ** www.ps3xploit.net > Domain no Longer owned by team** (NEW URL = http://ps3toolset.com) > Domain no Longer owned by team** (NEW URL = http://ps3toolset.com site is currently under temporary maintenance. It may remain like that for a few days.

What is the maintenance for if you don't mind me asking?
