PS3 4.82 NoBD CFW Options ( REBUG / FERROX / OVERFLOW ) : Unable to boot Apps / Games from PS3 XMB?

Here is a type of CFW for PlayStation 3 consoles with a broken BD Logic Board/Drive and contains an issue of not being able to boot anything from the PS3 XMB. It does not matter if the content is stored on the DISC or HDD, you can not launch anything from the XMB with PS3 Console's contain this defect. If that sounds like a PS3 console you have laying around or know someone who might have that issue, there is good news as there is an easy fix (Yes, Sony its easy and Sony should issue this patch themselves). Simply by disabling & patching the Disc drive, developer's in the PS3 community have found out this allows those otherwise useless consoles to launch items once again from the PS3 XMB, So play your purchased Content from PSN / Disc Backups ect/ Purchase things from PSN store/ play video & use services once again on your PS3. noBD CFW for a majority will never be used, but is a great option for PS3 owners that are otherwise stuck with a broken console that would only use would be a power hungry screensaver. So lets take a look at some of the NoBD CFW options and favors we have seen released to this point

Additional CFW & Homebrew updates for 4.82 can be seen in this thread:

(Not all homebrew needs an update to support a new firmware release)

Maybe I was unclear, but like a payload to run for people stuck with broken BT/BD on OFWs that aren't supported by PS3xploit, so that they can update to a supported firmware and use PS3xploit.
Installation of noBD cfw after using ps3xploit on 4.82 ofw on a console without working BD is already possible.
Not sure what else you may be after?

You misunderstand me, I mean that, for example, if you were on a lower OFW such as 4.70 that PS3xploit *doesn't* support. You can't update to 4.82 OFW if your BT/BD is broken. Couldn't a general payload be made to support all firmwares to just patch out the BD/BT check so people could update to 4.82 (or another supported firmware) and run PS3xploit?

I never really thought about it.
I don't know if such a general patch would actually work. In any case, the easiest way at this stage isn't to do what you suggest but rather to port the flash writer to the fw version needed.
However there is a good reason for not releasing the flash writer for any other fw than 4.82. If we did, there would be many flsh.hex files available, users would use the wrong hex files, despite any md5 checks recommendations, & brick partially left, right & centre.
As a result, the coming update will most likely be the final version & will still only support 4.82.

But creating a flsh.hex file + changing a dozen offsets in the html file to apply the flash writer on a different ofw version isn't really such an obstacle, it does not require any ROP knowledge, many advanced ps3 users could do it. A script could even get written to automate the process...
But am afraid we will leave that job to the community because we have much more important things to work on...sorry.

Ah, I see. Hopefully someone does step up and make it detect your current firmware and apply the correct patches.

Anyway, thanks for entertaining the thought and for everything you've done with PS3xploit, I see it's making a lot of people happy :)

No problem. :)
And FYI, devs & modders are welcome to contact us at any time for advice on how to proceed with mods. We will help with any such request how & when we can...

A lot of downgraders keep talking a lot of trash on the exploit, its kind of funny and annoying I think

What a surprise... LMFAO
Is their wallet hit by any chance?

Many downgraders, not all of course it goes without saying, profited financially of this scene having no better solutions for years & of course wanted to keep it that way.
While they provided a very useful service back then, in any case, no-one in their ranks proved resourceful or smart enough to offer better so now I believe the vocal ones should keep their trap shut, I suggest that they get busy innovating & possibly getting themselves another source of revenue if it's so important to them...

The PS3Xploit team members on the other hand never profited from anything or anyone, quite the contrary actually.
And yet we offered an easier & free alternative, although you must realise that we could have setup the flash writer as an online service & billed users at a much lower price than a downgrader would ever ask.
We never considered the option for a second but it was a possibility, just as legal as what downgraders do... or rather did...

They are driven by self interest & I can't abide that, not in our community, it's pathetic. We should all be aiming for what is in everyone's interest.

REBUG_4.82.1_LITE_NoBD_Cobra7.55 (MEGA)

REBUG_4.82.1_LITE_NoBD_Cobra7.55 (Sendspace)

MD5: F86307C057780F3C2FB805262FBEF14E
Thanks @bitsbubba

Is there an REBUG_4.82.1_LITE_NoBT_Cobra7.55 Release?
Those are not "releases" but patched versions of a release, I don't think you should call them "releases", it's misleading.

Rebug does not release official patched versions & does not officially support them either afaik. Although Joonie is always nice enough to help anyone having issues with Rebug, even when patched.

As far as the availability of a noBT version is concerned, I don't think bitsbubba made one but he still might if some people are interested...

Hey Buddy, thanks for the cfw, but unfortunately it does not work :( It works only with Cobra disabled. If I enable Cobra in Rebug toolbox, all the homebrew are stuck in a black screen. Can you please check one more time if there is a chance to fix it? I would be really thankful. Thanks anyways and good luck

Unless your ps3 model is 25xx, did you actually leave a BD logic board connected to the motherboard?

Hi,
nope my model is PHAT CHECHG04 and the board is still connected. I think that there is something with the firmware because latest Ferrox with NoBD patches works good. I would still rather use Rebug :)
