Hello everybody,

I installed HFW version 4.86 last December, I would now like to use the Playstation Network, but when I try to log in with my account and the password it tells me that I have to update to 4.87. I then performed the upgrade procedure from the recovery menu by inserting the HFW_4.87.1_PS3UPDAT.PUP renaming it to PS3UPDAT.PUP under the PS3 / UPDATE / folder of the key in FAT32. When I access the recovery boot and press the start and select keys, the system tells me that there is no upgradeable content higher than 4.86.

Can anyone explain to me what I'm doing wrong?

Thank you all

Is the fat32 partition on your USB key a MBR partition?
The PS3 doesn't natively support GPT partitions, only MBR.
If you dunno or are not sure, fire up a basic partitioning tool (if you are an advanced user, you don't need any help with this part, if you are not, on Windows, you could use the integrated storage manager admin tool or download the limited but free version of Minitool Partition wizard or Partition Magic etc.. Any of them would do the trick. If you are a Linux user, you can use gparted or whatever else you favour).

Once the tool recognises the usb key, check the partitioning type.
Make sure it is MBR partitioning & not GPT.
MBR has become a legacy format, GPT is often used by default nowadays when you partition & format a storage device.
If ever the USB key is partitioned using GPT, change to MBR & try installing the PUP again.
