    Savegames conversion tutorial

WARNING: This option will overwrite your current savedata in dev_usbXXX, use it with caution

    • Download someone else's savegame for your game of your choice
    • Put the savedata in your pendrive in "X:\PS3\SAVEDATA" (pendrive must be in FAT32)
    • Put in the pendrive in the PS3
    • Select Network Tab > [★ Custom Firmware Tools] > PSN Tools > Convert Savedata
    • Wait until the conversion finishes
    • Once finished, copy your converted savedata throught XMB "Saved Data Utility (PS3)"
    • Launch your game and load your new savedata

    Creation of act.dat tutorial

WARNING: The accountID is linked to savedata and trophies, so, if your current user already have a valid accountID and you overwrite it, you will be unable to use your trophies and savedata on that account until you restore the original accountID in xRegistry.sys.

I recommend to use an empty account without trophies and savedata or an account without accountID.

To create a fake act.dat, Cobra 8.3 must be enabled, and your PS3 must have at least one account with a valid accountID and launch a game that requires a RIF/RAP license file.

Cobra will search a valid accountID in all existing accounts and create act.dat while the game is launched through the XMB. If no accountID is found, act.dat will not be created.

You can create a fake accountID (like reactPSN), to do this go to Network > ★ Custom Firmware Tools > PSN Tools and choose between "Create accountID" or "Overwrite accountID" (Be careful about the last option because if you already have a fake/real accountID it will be overwritten). It is recommended to use these options in an account that does not have an ID. The PS3 will restart if everything went well.

The tutorial would be the following:
    • Download your purchased PSN game from PS Store
    • Put game RAP file in "X:\exdata" or "/dev_hdd0/exdata"
    • Launch your purchased PSN game
    • Cobra will check if any of your PS3 accounts have accountID
    • Faked act.dat will be created while the game is launching

If none of your accounts have a valid accountID you will need to create it. To do this log into the local PS3 account where you want to create the accountID. You can see if your current local account has an accountID choosing Network Tab > [★ Custom Firmware Tools] > PSN Tools > Show accountID.

To create a faked act.dat do the following:
    • Make sure Cobra 8.3 is enabled
    • Select Network Tab > [★ Custom Firmware Tools] > PSN Tools > Create accountID
    • Select Network Tab > [★ Custom Firmware Tools] > PSN Tools > Activate account
    • Launch your purchased PSN game
    • Faked act.dat will be created while the game is launching

Now you have a faked act.dat and your local account is activated. The act.dat file works for every local account, you only need one file for all accounts.

    Block PSN log in

This method is developed by @DeViL303, it will only work with Cobra enabled, Cobra will block log in on PSN/SEN while the CFW syscalls are enabled, to enable it again you need to disable CFW syscalls completely (you can do it with webMAN MOD, psnpatch, SEN Enabler, etc…).

If you want to disable this feature, simply delete /dev_flash/vsh/resource/npsignin_plugin.lck

When it comes to removing the external devices plugged into the PS3, does it include my controller? it's a wired controller though
You don't have a choice, you have to keep it to operate the recovery menu.
Plug it in the left port, USB stick in the right, nothing else plugged in, no disc, no device connected, just the 2 USB devices.

Technically speaking your console is already on CFW right now except that the XMB is still OFW because XMB files are located in /dev_flash, those files are not deployed by the PS3 Toolset, only the lower level CoreOS files are.

Are you 100% sure about the PUP file integrity? If you are & the installation fails with other USB sticks you try, there could be a problem with one of the system partitions on the internal hdd where the PUP files get temporarily extracted before full deployment.
If that's the case, you may need to reformat your internal hdd or simply remove it, set it safely aside & try installing the CFW pup file on a spare hdd temporarily.

you can try unplugging the controller after starting the update. it may help if the problem is that the USB port is not getting enough electricity.

You don't install HEN.
You have to choose, it is either CFW (full jailbreak) or HEN (partial jailbreak), not both.
If you prefer to use HEN, you have to install a HFW 4.88 pup first.
But on a CFW compatible console, it makes little sense to use HEN.

At this stage, you should first eliminate all common causes for USB based firmware update errors, remove all external devices plugged into the ps3, use only the USB stick in rightmost USB port & no USB hub, no disc in BD drive, no BT devices other than the gamepad.
You should verify the integrity of your pup file, check its md5 checksum or whatever.

In recovery mode, check file system then rebuild db to ensure that all of is good there.
Then still in recovery mode try to install the CFW using the system update feature.
If it doesn't work & gives you the same error code, try another USB device just to be sure.
And if you still cannot install, get a different error code or whatever, report here, we can explore other avenues like reformatting the internal hdd.

I still can't install. It keeps on showing the dialogue. "No applicable data was found. Connect storage media that contains update data of version 4.88 or later, and then press the START and SELECT buttons at the same time."

I used 2 different flash drives though and both are in PS3>UPDATE>PS3UPDATE.PUP or as indicated on the downloaded file from this thread that has a file name "CFW 4.88.2 Evilnat Cobra 8.3 [CEX]". I already tried to verify the MD5 and it all matched up.

Try renaming the pup file to PS3UPDAT.pup without the "e" at the end. Then it should be detected

That's no longer the same problem though,
There is no error code 0x80029C55 anymore?

This 'no applicable data" error is typical of USB update issues, there must be hundreds & hundreds of posts in this forum just about that error.. [emoji23]
It usually means that either the fat32 partition cannot be accessed or that the pup file is invalid, corrupted or the path is wrong PS3/UPDATE/PS3UPDAT.PUP

Oh my god!...it worked LMAO...in my case, I use a wired controller, before I click update, I disconnect it immediately and it started detecting and installing the update...Thanks bro!

Nope...it does not say any error code anymore.

Thanks guys! I nailed it!
You are welcome
The problem with this type of update errors is that there are multiple causes for a USB update failure, most of the time, it is caused by GPT partitioning but every now & again, someone experiences an error because of a USB hub or a fancy USB device with a hidden partition etc..
But in the end the issue was USB device related as everyone thought all along.

So I got the CFW installed, what should I do next? for setup purposes?
Only you can know that.
The CFW is ready as is, in the network settings you get the CFW Tools allowing to enable/disable certain features.
In Evilnat's CFW, you must disable syscalls before you can connect to PSN, remember that if you wish to use PSN.
You should take the time to read the OP documentation.

Other than that, you should install whatever homebrew you need.
For starters, I recommend to install a couple of backup managers to manage/mount your game backups & manage your files.
Managunz is a good choice of backup manager app, you might also want to check out the webMAN-MOD or sMan backup manager plugins accessible from XMB.
There are dedicated threads in this forum for most homebrews, you should refer to them.
We also have a resources section with homebrews to download, alternatively you can also get homebrews at store.brewology.com.

Go slow, a console on CFW is like a PC in admin mode, anything goes & you can potentially damage your console by doing the wrong things. Avoid running every ps3 executable you can find online, stick to well known sources & when you have a doubt about something, just ask.

Yeah...it seems that the main issue is the lack of power to the flash drive all along

Small feature request: Can you give us an option to auto enable PSN like it is possible on webman? That would be great for some people like me as I use my console way more playing online instead of using homebrew.

Great work you did with this cfw btw. Thanks for this. :)

To have PSN auto enabled by default, the CFW syscalls would need to be disabled by default too, making the CFW senseless (you would be technically using OFW).

The purpose of having PSN disabled by default is to force the user to disable the CFW syscalls before login into PSN (after he/she has mounted the backup game). This is a safety measure to reduce the chances of banning your console/account due CFW detection.

I not fully agree with that. I only barely use Movian and emulators a few times a month, while I play online nearly every day. It is way more convenient in such situations to auto disable syscalls and go online and only temporarily enable cfw related things when I use them.

I also mainly use discs and PSN games. So I do not have any need of mounting backups.

In your case HEN fits more your needs.
You boot in OFW and enable CFW features only when you need it.
