Ok so the title pretty much explains my issue. The thing is I can return this thing for another one but I kind of hit the "Amazon Lottery" and ended up with a BC CECHA01 model from March 2007. I ordered an 80GB Fat model PS3 and ended up with a 60GB BC model so I'm reluctant to return it.
The issue I'm having is I get into a game and the PS3 shuts down with 3 beeps and the blinking red light which I understand means it's overheating? Idle temps reflect this a bit because even with webMan and the fan control function on it idles around 65ish.
I did order some new thermal paste and thermal pads as well as the delid tool. I've read some forum posts and watched a few videos so I'm confident doing the new paste and pads. I plan on delidding the RSX chip as well. The CPU makes me nervous to do without a tool so I'll probably skip doing that. I'm hopeful just cleaning it and the new paste and pads will fix the issue. If it doesn't I'm debating what to do next.
I still feel reluctant to return it because I understand that it is pretty rare. Just trying o figure out if its worth it to send it out for repairs recap, reball etc. Or if its even more worth it to pay up for the Frankenstein mod. I'd rather not have to pay so much for that mod but I'm curious if it's worth it. Backwards compatibility isn't really a huge deal to me as I've already backed up all my PS2 games for my soft modded PS2. I may just end up selling this thing and buying a more reliable slim model that still supports CFW. If I can find one. I'll probably repair it regardless but just curious if its more worth it to just go for the Frankenstein mod. It's expensive so if I end up selling it is the Frankenstein mod worth it? The only consoles I have seen that have had it done have some crazy prices on EBAY so just trying to weigh my options without spending a lot of money just for peace of mind. Or maybe I just return it to amazon and search for a compatible slim model lol. IDK just curious of other peoples thoughts.
