Wuddup
I've come here because I've exhausted all other sources of information and I am sure I've just buggered something up and you guys can set me straight in a jiffy.
I'll try to keep this to bullet points because I have a habit of textwall'ing:
- CECHA00 Japanese release model phat PS3 received, 4.89 fw, refurbished, 2 days ago.
> Function with PS3, PS2, PSX games were all confirmed prior to receipt.
- replaced 60gb hdd with 1tb hdd, successfully.
- Installed Evilnat CFW via ze russians
- Installed multiman, downloaded from the top of the releases list about 3 days ago
- successfully copied FFXIII to my ps3 HDD with multiman.
- Installed webMAN, downloaded from the top of the releases list about 3 days ago
- installed ntfsprep, downloaded from the top of the releases list on the day
- plugged 250gb SSD 'My Passport' external drive into rightmost USB port, to move a bunch of games across
- could do NOTHING to make the ps3 see the ntfs drive, including both 'prepntfs' and 'prepiso'. People say it might be a WD drive thing. nobody ever mentioned that before.
SO
- formatted a 32gb thumbdrive to ntfs, put games on it, used prepiso, again the games didn't show up in webMAN. (on my previous ps3, a super slim with hen, this thumbdrive using this method could be seen by webMAN, no idea why it didn't work this time)
- reformatted that thumbdrive, ntfs again, installed irisman (downloaded from the top of the releases list on the day), and this time successfully used it to transfer 4 PS2 iso files to the PS2ISO directory on my internal HDD.
- go to XMB, go to webMAN games, open setup menu and refresh games list, go back to the folders, open the PS2 ISOs folder, highlight the game I want to run, press O while holding no shoulder buttons (in japan O = yes = default yes on PS), the console boots into the PS2 emu, displays that PS2 logo, then...
... PLAYS ONLY AUDIO, AND CAN BE CONTROLLED (intro videos skipped, etc, according to what I hear), BUT THERE IS NO VIDEO.
- wtf?!
- Quickly purchased a Japanese PS2 dvd from the local second hand store, IT WORKED FINE, with video. the intro to mgs2 when he's walking on the bridge is muted but the rest of the game works fine with full stereo sound. But it's in Japanese and I want English, don't i?
- Tried holding L2, R2, and R1 at various moments when opening the games, none of this worked, holding R1 loaded a different emu, but it crashed before even the ps2 logo became visible.
To to recap the results of my trouble shooting:
- My PS3 can play PS2 games, it played a physical DVD of mgs2 without problems, at 1080p, over my HDMI cable.
- For some reason, the emulator softwares that I have installed, and the official internet hardwear emulation, are conspiring to fail to produce any video output when running my .iso files, despite clearly running the game: i can hear the games, and i can control them, i just can't SEE them.
- I've tried EU, USA, and J-NTFS format games, the J-NTFS in the form of the MGS2 DVD, which so far is the only thing that worked. But is useless to me.
Any help would be hugely appreciated, i'm desperate to just get this working so i can play my nostalgic games in peace.
