So here is the story.
I thought i got this great deal at a thrift store. a PS3 $5.99 hell yeah. took it home the firmware was low enough so i could mod it! Hell yeah! Modded it and webman was like WHOA your CPU is like 85c+ so I looked up online what to do. I used some rubbing alc and took the dry original paste off and applied new thermal paste.... Same result sounded like my PS3 was going to take off. Did a little more research. I bought a 19 Blade Cooling Fan for $20 to replace my 15 blade fan and also replaced my old PSU with the more effect PS3 APS-231 for $50.
Turned on the Ps3 still getting 77c temps.... So re-flow time I ordered some arctic thermal paste, a flux pen and a heat gun.
I followed the tutorial on Youtube spending a minute and a half with the heat gun on low circling around each chip after fluxing the hell out of them. and 30 seconds on all the NEC chips. I even bent the CPU clips so there is more force on the CPU when screwing them on.
Plugged it in.... Still fan is humming away at 77c and that's just on the webmod screen not even playing games. When I turn on the PS3 it flashes yellow and green a few times then turns on with the fan screaming.
If anyone has any other Ideas... I would love to hear them. I was thinking of doing this mod.
I just don't really want to hurt the case...
