PS3 CEX to DEX ?

Hello i need help does anyboy know how i can get to dex because rebug is down i dont have toolbox and i dont have firmware i am stuck on cex and want to get to dex!
 
Use the wayback machine to access the website. Also the firmware already includes the toolbox, you just have to install it from package manager > system storage

You have not given us the details we need to give you the advice you seek so I will have to review the most likely cases hoping that your situation falls into one of them.

You should have started from the beginning ie what is your current CFW? Rebug REX 4.8x, Rebug Lite 4.8x, another CFW 4.8x or OFW 4.8x?

1. If you are currently using Rebug Lite you cannot change kernel mode. You will first need to install Rebug REX. The last REX version available is 4.84 so if ever you are using Rebug Lite 4.85 or 4.86, you will have to downgrade to 4.84. That requires enabling QA using the Rebug Toolbox prior to installing Rebug REX. Remember that this step is ONLY necessary if QA has not already been enabled in the past.


2. If you are currently using Rebug REX, changing mode to dex is done via the Rebug Toolbox in 2 steps:
A) Rewrite TargetID
B) Swap lv2 kernel

To switch back to cex, you only need to rewrite TargetID, the kernel is swapped automatically.

3. If you are currently on another CFW than Rebug then if your current firmware version is > 4.84, you need to enable QA (if not already done) with a QA toggler available on store.brewology.com, reboot & install Rebug REX 4.84. Then use the Rebug Toolbox to complete the 2 steps described in 2. to switch to dex mode.

4. If you are currently on OFW you will first need to jailbreak using the PS3 Toolset's Flash Memory Manager then either install Rebug REX 4.84 directly if your current firmware is <= 4.84, if not you will have to install Rebug Lite 4.85 or 4.86 first, enable QA (use the Rebug Toolbox or a QA toggler homebrew) then downgrade to Rebug REX 4.84. Finally you will have to use the Rebug Toolbox as described previously in 2. to switch to dex mode.

The Rebug Toolbox is ready to install by default in the pkg manager in all recent Rebug releases (that includes 4.84/4.85/4.86 & some earlier versions).

If you need to download a Rebug PUP file, you can use the webarchive service to browse the rebug.me website as it was last month, download the appropriate zip file containing the URL to the PUP file & use it to download the PUP file.

I am on ferrox cobra right now (4.86) so i must downgrade first ? To 4.84 then i must enable qa and then switch to dex ? With the 4.84.2 ? And to go online when i want i must use sen enabler ?
 
you have to enable qa flag first (only one time ever, after that it stays enabled). then goto 4.84.2 rebug rex..

So i can just enable qa flag and then downgrade and enter key kernel in toolbox and then i am in dex ?
 
So next help is how to downgrade from ferrox cobra (4.86)after enabling qa flag how do i open rebug settings to downgrade ?

Downgrading is not a specific feature, it's only the name we give to the installation (via the standard system update) of a firmware that's older than the currently installed firmware.
When QA is disabled, installing an older firmware is not possible.
When QA is enabled, you can install any firmware version as long as your system supports it.


If QA is not already enabled, toggle it with a QA toggler & reboot the console to apply the changes. It is usually recommended to keep QA enabled at all times, not just for the extra features it provides but also because downgrading can be helpful when trying to solve certain issues.

Once QA is enabled, you can just install the Rebug REX 4.84 PUP from USB mass storage using the standard system update feature either from the XMB or from safe mode, up to you.

And just to clarify, REX & D-REX are basically identical CFWs with only one difference, in REX the default kernel is CEX while in D-REX the default kernel is DEX.

You may then ask why releasing 2 CFWs if they are the same?
It's mainly because after a switch to DEX mode using the Rebug Toolbox, you can no longer install or reinstall any CEX firmware (CEX kernel), the system update will only accept a DEX firmware (DEX kernel) & vice versa, in CEX mode, you can only install/reinstall a CEX firmware.
Say you install Rebug REX & switch kernel mode to DEX, then after a while you wish to install Rebug Lite 4.86, you would have to switch back to CEX mode before you can install Rebug Lite.
Now imagine for instance what would happen if you got a hdd failure while in DEX mode, you would have to reinstall the firmware but you would only be able to install a DEX firmware, reinstalling Rebug REX would fail, that is the kind of situations where D-REX comes in handy!


In short, Rebug provides REX & D-REX in order to
1. protect users from the potential consequences of kernel mode switching
2. provide users with flexibility
