Does anyone know how I can fix this connector? I don't think I can solder it. Someone who is better than I am might be able to but I don't have the patience. I have to remarry the new one if I can't fix this one and after reading through the threads here I'm sure I'll struggle to perform the process and if it doesn't work I'll probably throw it against the wall.

Either source a new clip and solder it on, or reattach the old one. You have to solder this connection, there is no way around it. In a pinch you could shave back the ribbon cable and separate the leads for direct soldering to the pads. Reattaching that clip wouldn't be as difficult as it may seem. Flux and ball the clip itself, flux and ball the pads on the board, then set it in place and hit each point one at a time. Would be even easier with a heat gun. Practice soldering on some dead electronics first, remove a chip, put it back etc. If all else fails get a new daughter board and remarry.

I have 2 boards now but I only have one connector. So now it becomes a question of which is easier/safer? Remarry or solder? I'm thinking remarry and if I fail nothing lost and then I can try and solder but in order to remarry will I need to keep the ps3 in a jailbroken state? I have yet to find a clear set of instructions in layman's terms for the beginner.

Without the daughter board he won't be able to launch any apps so I don't know if jailbreak will be possible without a hardware flasher. You may have to repair the old one in order to install cfw using the toolset. I'm not sure, maybe @bguerville can clarify. Without cfw and rebug toolbox he can't get eid root key and will not be able to remarry the drive.

You may try to hook up that other daughterboard even though it isn't married. I can't remember if that alone just being there will allow you to install firmware and launch apps. There is a tutorial for step by step remarry by @Louay here in the forums. He might shed some light on your issue also. I seem to remember him messing with no bd before.

I used the new BD drive with it's daughterboard to try to jailbreak it. I get black screen for movies and games. I guess I don't need that connector and ribbon unless I'm putting in a disk. It is for the motor.

Im not completly sure, but yeah, the broken connector is probably for a motor

The important connectors are the big ones, this is where are located the data lines for the BD controller chip (the biggest chip of the daughterboard)

I guess it should be enought to use only 1 ribbon cable to keep the BD controller chip "alive", this allows the firmware installers and the firmware functions to check his ID and version

Crazy Idea, Can I use both daughterboards if I can connect both by the ribbon cables? One to operate the motor (the broken connector) and the other will do the rest. I have 2 of every ribbon cable

I guess I just need to remarry the new board that came with the new BD drive. Can anyone suggest a tutorial for someone who knows absolutely nothing about doing this? I have searched and found so many different tutorials I don't know which to try. I have a CECHK01 with 4.87 This console has not been used more than 50 hours and it would be shame to throw it away. besides, I just spent $40.00 on the Drive :-) I could have bought one from ebay.
