PS4 Dead Optical Disc Drive?

I have Slim PS4 (CUH-2116A; not hacked fw v8.03) and today after some long session on "green chameleon" (Yoka Laylee and The Impossible Lair) I "quit rage". ;) I have pressed eject button but disc didn't go out as normally should. Instead in right screen corner, eject icon blinking. After some 10 minutes of testing my patience, I turn it off (just from menu). I have turned on PS4 and pressing eject making only beeps like it should but disc not going out. On top of that, console doesn't show any disc in drive, I cannot eject it by software (choosing eject from game menu) because it doesn't appeared like no disc is detecting. Trying to launch game, also saying that no disc is in drive...

So... Does it means that ODD is dead? Does it means that like in case of PS3, I will no be able to update firmware?

I'm not sure if this will be helpful, but my friend had the opposite issue. discs would eject automatically at random. I think he said he opened up the console and taped the sensor down. it seems to work now from what I've heard. I know how to get a disc out of a 360 with a defective eject button, but not sure about a ps4. you'll probably have to open it up to see if something is wrong with the sensor. though, it sounds more serious if the disc isn't being read either. I'm not sure if you'll be able to install an update if the bd drive is broken. with exploited consoles, they'd have a package you'd install to make the update go through, but that's obviously not going to work here.

Slit after disc eating is blocking. I don't see any tiny hole to emergency ejecting so probably it is impossible without opening this bomb. :/

yeah, probably. that's how it is on the 360, just take off the face plate, then use a paperclip or something in one of the holes to pull the tray out. you'll probably have to open up that sucker to get at the drive directly.

I think, ODD controller chip is motherboard inbuilt for Slim PS4. So updating firmware won't be a problem. Maybe someone can confirm that.

Drives are cheap & you can buy from Aliexpress. BTW, eject problem sounds like a mechanical fault. Maybe you can just clean up the drive and see if it fixes. There are videos on youtube on servicing PS4 ODD.

I had few sae001, sad001, saf boards with same issues, there are 2 fusese on mobos , find YT Andrew Paul.
I don't have any mobo to show where they are, they should be power of driver motor ic. If those are good may be driver ic itself.
Edit
Something goes hot there. Is your thermal paste exchanged in last 2 years?

@vyktormvmpay25 For me it is dead whatever needs to be done if console must be open. I have no manual skills for dismantling and assembling back hardware (especially soldering/desoldering is beyond my capability). :/

I've never changed paste. I'm just playing games on it like casual. ;p ~1500h, maybe more. PS4 was put on table and always have free space around it.

@snkplkn Isn't in case when eject sensor/button is broken/disconnected/etc I still should be able to play game inside the drive? ODD don't see disc inside and doesn't allow me to eject it.

@pinky At least I get out a disc. ^^ Very nice emergency ejecting! On back of the console, it is sufficient to put screwdriver in the circle symbol on right (triangle in upper right corner, cross in bottom right) and start turning it clockwise. Disc will be slowly but surly going out.

Ok just you may want to watch, is something similar, in different units may act different but still same thing one or two fuses

Somehow those fuses are for eject motor and /or spinning cd motor in center. You can not see cd. Can't remember if that ic is for power lines of lens, but had many times this, mostly when units get hot. Probably thermal paste starts drying.

I like watching stuff like that. So thanks for the links and advice. ^^

Does often fuses blowing? Is the reason an overhitting? Broken by design? Sony time bomb? Just curious. ;]

Not fuses always, mostly broken units will have dead APU. Dry thermal paste forcing unit will kill APU. Even though reball will help, not many units will be fixed. Most blood can not be fixed. This permanent blod seems to be broken gpu side of APU, not sure, but over years fixed few units and many inspections.
Appears to be easier to fix then ps3, but is more loose of time if all measurements were done and there are all voltages in place, I just give back unit without charging people money if I don't fix nothing.
Mostly changing thermal paste and adding control fan accelerator for those who want.

On your type of issue when cd is not spinning or not ejecting CD yes is fuses blow.
Even older ps4 with separate daughters boards have same problem with fuses around that motor driver ic.

Are these fans any good for keeping PS4 cool?

I'm refreshing the thread because today I'm really piss off. I tried to install 8.50 over 8.03 because PlayStation Store doesn't work without those fucking annoying useless updates with fucking social shit. I wanted buy Anodyne because I love Zelda type games and it is very cheap now...

So console started to download update package, rebooted to updater, updating and at the end it displaying error SU-42118-6. Strangely I cannot sync the joypad (original, the one bundled with console) and buttons power off and eject doesn't react. I was thinking that there is some watchdog implemented for such occasions so I pressed for ~15s of power button to start cold powering off. But it didn't work that way. So I wait a little longer, thinking that maybe there is some time out implemented, but no... Twenty minutes have past so it means hang for good... I put out power cord with of course knowing that this is a bad idea but I really have no choice. Now console doesn't booting at all, no signal on tv/monitor and diode light like in normal boot procedure.

Thank You Sony for FUCKS my console.
I don't have money for another and I do not plan to buy again any of Your time bombs. I was with PlayStation from the beginning but from generation to generation more and more anti-consumer bullshit is implementing. I just tired of this shit.

I'm not sure if this is a good idea. I can remove it to check S.M.A.R.T on PC, but I don't know what happen when I boot it without it. I don't want loose HDD sn/fw ver set because I need data on it. If she unset the HDD, I will loose everything (and I don't have any media on which I could store 500GiB image).

I didn't try update from USB in recovery. Sounds like nonsense but who knows.

Option with Initialization is beyond the options because it will clear all data.

If you can get into safe mode, you are lucky. Forget about data, i don't see any chance for recovering it. Do initialization to restore your system if rebuilding database etc doesn't solve your problem.

I tried boot it and now boot normally... WTF?

I have checked S.M.A.R.T and HDD is ok.

Update via Safe Mode from USB, end with the same result. SU-42118-6 and based on dev wiki it covering my case, so I don't see a reason for initialize option as it also writing firmware which have such bomb design as update package. Updating from USB also freezing PS4 and hard power off, ends with the same results: no booting, until second try... Which I completely doesn't understand.
BD-ROM Drive Error / Can Not Communicate with BD-ROM. Check BD-ROM Ribbon between motherboard and drive. If the tabs are broken, replace cable and test. Also check connectors for breaks or corrosion. If no better, check and replace drive board fuses where bad

So it would be best now to wait for kexploit for 8.03 and praying to God that licenses don't need to be refresh after each quarter of year been offline as I heard...
