PS2 Disc not spinning

Hi y'all, I got 2 Slimline PS2s on facebook marketplace but can't get one of them to read discs. Every time I pop a disc in the drive it just doesn't spin. I've tried pressing down the switch on the power button and the laser moves and turns on and off but the disc won't spin. Also tried another motor that I had lying around but no luck with that one. Any ideas?

Sometimes (or on some devices, rather) the disc won't start spinning until the laser gets feedback, that is, a reflection. If the diode turns on it could be a mirror issue (misaligned, almost impossible to re-calibrate), but I wouldn't just trust what i've said without some proper testing. If the other console that's working properly is the same model or at least use the same lens, I would try swapping them and see if it's working. If not, maybe the motor is dead or there could be a problem with the board itself.

Ok, I got the disc to spin after cleaning the motors with some alcohol. Problem now is that the disc spins kinda slow and I get a can't read disc error. Is my laser dead?

probably it's just the motor that's caked with dust on the inside

I don't think so, I tried another one and it works at a pretty similar speed.

Can't you just test the whole dvd drive assembly from the working console on the non working one to rule out motherboard problems?
