Downgrade help

Hi Guys,

So I'm trying to fix up a friends PS3 that I setup a long time ago on Rebug, and one of his kids has inadvertantly updated it with a game disc to the latest 4.81 ofw. They've also somehow at some stage, removed the toggle qa, or rebug toolbox (i forget which was in it, as it was some time ago now).

Anyway, I've tried the rebug downgrader, rogero downgrader, and a few of the later rebug cfw's to see if they would work, of course they didn't.

The downgraders would start the update process, but fail at 70%.

From what I could find, it seems QA needs to be on for it to be able to downgrade.
So, I tried backing it up, and adding the toggle qa and/or rebug toolbox .pkg's back into it with pexploit.

I did manage to get that to work, the packages show up in the games list, but I just get 'an error occurred during the start operation (80010017)' if i try to run them.. (any way to make these work as it seems like they're whats holding back the downgrade?)

What am I doing wrong?

Anyone have some suggestions? or am i down to an E3 flasher? if they will even work with ofw 4.81 :\

appreciate any advice!

Dave C.

If had ofw 3.56+ installed only way e3 flasher downgrade unfortunately
E3 flasher will downgrade any version
What model ps3 is it slim nor or phat nor or nand ?

fairly sure the original ofw it shipped with was less than 3.55... its a slim, but a 320gb one that i originally setup for him.
i just gave it a 1Tb hdd as well while im at it trying to correct it... had it sitting around spare from my ps4 pro.

are you saying any OFW higher than 3.56 can't be downgraded without a E3 flasher?

E3 or teensy my friend, after that you may want to install one of the locking tools made to prevent this from happening in the future. Ps3lock.

Thanks. Haven't seen Teensy before, and not heard of Ps3lock... i assume you mean to prevent a disc updating it? That would definitely be a good thing with my mates 10 kids lol That said, if you use that, does it then prevent you from being able to play the game, if it wants to update and can't?

There are a few ways to go about preventing updates. Two of them are ps3 lock and xmblock, while I dont believe they block updates. They can be used to lock down certain features of the ps3 like the game column or network column. To prevent updates completely. I would recommend setting debug update to on in rebug, and also to block update servers from sony itself. Pinky made a tutorial in the ps3 forums on how to do that from your router. I believe debug update in rebug cfw will stop a disc update. Someone else might be able to shed more light on this.

Thanks. I will try that. Have had it e3'd, and it's mostly behaving itself now, so will add that option via rebug toolbox and see how it goes.
I don't have access to the guys router, and he's not that tech savvy, so will have to rely on him instructing his kids!
