PS3 DVD region code change

I can now confirm that a CECHA00 japanese console can play PAL DVDs. This is achieved by simply changing the "debug" settings to DEX, you can then access the debug settings and change the region to PAL. The A00 can now play PAL DVDs with no issues. I have performed this region switch on 3 A00 consoles and its worked every time. however it won't work on an A01 or A12

Does anyone have any idea why the A01 and A12 are region locked for DVDs? The custom firmware doesn't alter the region. Using IDPset doesn't work and neither does changing the region in the debug settings.

So what's going on???

have you tried changing xreg?

maybe the bd targetID has to be changed on JAP models?
this lv2 patch from MrEnigma does fake bd region by telling syscall it is different region - interesting patch

The A00 works by changing the region in the debug menu. How do I apply this patch from MrEnigma? You can do fake BD in the debug settings but that didn't work on the A01 and A12
 
I was talking about your other non working model, A-12 you say? the xreg edit probably leads to blackscreen, but removing of error code.

the patch has to be ported, to make use of it. better off, you downgrade to 3.55 and try lv2patcher first, to see if this even works. if so, we could port the "payload"

Okay, so the last time I tried to do a 3.55 downgrade it wouldn't recognise the pup file so on guessing you can't go straight to 3.55 for some reason. Lv2 patcher, is that an application I can run, I have no experience with this

yes, this is just a payload loader using .txt files. there was one for the region fake, which you have to use. maybe have to use an old 3.55 CFW like kmeaw instead of Rebug
 
hm, sorry me. seems this is same that Cobra already does. not using region src on Cobra anymore, so didn't know or recognized it

basically, it intercepts get_system_param and fakes region according to given disc

^^probably. well, the reason I have not answered further, this patch by MrEnigma is the same what Cobra has implemented, so they have used his patch for Cobra src. dunno if this has worked on 3.55 days, but according to other forums it has and you could play PAL DVDs on JAP PS3

the way the patch was done is interesting. it hooks an internal syscall and gives fake info to it
 
@Timbo9876 I will send you a PKG to test region bypass patches (along more error codes bypass) that I am testing with more people to see if it works for you

Unfortunately the PKG that Evilnat send me doesn't fully work. It definitely had an effect because the DVD would load but the picture would freeze. So Evilnat I believe is working on it to see if he can rectify the issue
 
Some folks have told me to Install Evilnat PEX then switch to DEX then go to something called debug settings and change the Console region to Europe then switch back to CEX.

Will this work?
 
There's Zero documentation on Debug Settings for Evilnat 4.90 and i don't want to downgrade to Rogero I'm quite fond of Evilnat

You need to have Evilnat 4.90PEX installed, I can run through the process with you once you have this firmware installed
