PS3 DVD region code change

I got it to work i installed PEX then dumped my eID Root key then i converted to DEX then i went to Debug Settings>Region it was North America i made it Europe i then converted back to CEX and rebooted i then toggled Debug Settings back to CEX rebooted again and i can Confirm that it does play Both PAL and NTSC content FLAWLESSLY my question is this now.

Can i reinstall Evilnat 4.90 CEX cause D-PEX is ugly as sin there is a lot of new options in most of the XMB sections with star icons next to them i want this to be gone. So can i go back to normal CEX?

OK so i found the solution to my problem go to

Network>Custom Firmware Tools>CEX/DEX Tools> and turn of Host Display and set XMB to CEX this hides all those useless options and shit

This did not work for me. I followed your instructions exactly. I have a Japanese PS3 that won't read Region 1 aka US DVDs no matter what I try. When I check my region info in Evilnat it shows the desired North American region. We're there other steps you took to get it to work?

Hi, have you done this successfully? I have a Japanese CECH-2500A running FW 4.89.3 Evilnat Cobra 8.4 [PEX] [CEX] [OC]. I would like to play Region 1 (North America) DVDs on it.

I have tried the CEX>DEX>Change Region, which results in a black screen. If I CEX>DEX>Change Region>CEX I get the infamous "This disc cannot be played. The region code is not correct." Which is infuriating because for a micro-second I can see the DVD images starting before the stupid error message comes up.

I literally created my account here to be able to ask for help. Any guidance you can provide would be so appreciated, I'm jailbreaking and gifting this PS3 for my younger brother and I want to make sure it has full functionality.

Bumping the thread with another slightly different question. Is it possible to change the region permanently so that it's also saved in FSM mode? It seems region changing only works in regular xmb, but the moment I get into Fsm mode, the region is locked again. And changing it there doesn't do anything because it's not able to save it for whatever reason...

Try converting to DEX and then changing from the debug menu.

I've done that. Only works in xmb. I think it's the softemu which I'm trying to run that has additional checks separately. I was trying to run a pal ps2 game on a japanese CECHL00 console. But I'm not sure where it's digging out the info about the region. Maybe it's inside blue ray drive firmware?

ps2_softemu is unfinished, unreliable and unstable. In any case, nothing is expected to work in FSM so unlocking region there is pointless.
