PS3 Evilnat 4.92.2 Broken NetEMU

After updating from Evilnat 4.89 to 4.92.2 I've been completely unable to play any PS2 ISO no matter what I do, it always loads into a grey 720p screen.

I have:

  • Mounted PS2 ISO files with Multiman

  • Mounted PS2 ISO files with Webman

  • Converted the ISO files to PS2 Classics format

  • Converted the ISO.BIN.ENC files to PS2 Classics packages
None of these made a difference, no NetEMU configs made a difference, I've reinstalled webman and done all the PS3 equivalents of "have you tried turning it off and on again" to no avail. These are known good ISO's that I've used for years on this console!

Seeing how NetEMU was abandoned by sony after 4.89 I think its safe to say that NetEMU has been broken by some change since 4.89. Is there any solution to this? I cannot for the life of me get this to work

Hi, you can try to reinstall CFW or downgrade it back to 4.89.
It will tell if netemu file was currupted, or the one in 4.92.2 was a problem - let us know the results.

Reinstalling CFW falls under the "have you tried turning it off and on again" troubleshooting that I have already done, I have not tried downgrading again to 4.89 because idk if it would break something like webman but reinstalling 4.92 and 4.92.2 solved nothing

Did you try a different ISO? Your ISO file could be corrupted or the game can have compatibility issues.

Some PS2 issues can be fixed with CONFIG. But it's not always possible.

You also can try installing one of the modified ps2_netemus from webMAN Games > webMAN Setup > Update webMAN MOD > Custom Firmware MODs > PS2 NETEMU MODs

It's not a compatibility problem because I've been successfully using these ISO's and their respective games for years on 4.89 but yes I have tried other ISO's and used different modded netemus but it still doesnt work, even PS2 games from PS2CV or whatever its called do not work

If your PS3 phat model CECH-A/CECH-B/CECH-C/CECH-E ? If so, your PS3 could be using ps2_emu or ps2_gxemu instead of ps2_netemu.

Try copying a new ISO to the HDD or try launching an official PS2 Classic PKG.

You could also try changing the smooth/upscaler options in Settings > Game Settings
https://manuals.playstation.net/document/en/ps3/current/settings/gamesettings.html

If it was working on 4.89 you should try downgrading to that version.

You could try also the options 2, 3 and 5 from the recovery menu. Try one at a time.

I had done all these things previously, what ended being the problem was petitboot of all things! I had to enable the GameOS flag and now everything works fine. After updating your firmware the PS3 will automatically set the OtherOS flag, not GameOS for PS2 and PS3 recovery

I have a CECHK using NETEMU for emulation, I have petitboot because I was messing around with Red Ribbon for a bit. IMO PS3 linux is not at all worth it, the only semi viable distros are an antiquated version of Fedora and T2SDE. Both of which dont use the GPU + SPE's and dont particularly support any software very well for their own different reasons

Gotcha, sorry, I just read something about an a01. Thanks for reply and info

Edit: I will however ask if petitboot removes the recovery menu?
