PS3 Fault finding YLOD with the SYSCON - First steps and Error reporting

Well, I hope that was your fault. In any case, I would advice you to check error codes with UART to see if there's any other problem, because I'm really HIGHLY toubting that NEC/TOKINs were faulty.
Is it backwards compatible tho CECHA/B/C/E ?
And yeah, I hope he soldered a thick wires, thiner ones will burn quickly.
lol, i posted the error codes here and people said it was nec tokins. what more do you want

Yes you can, but you would have to format it first - each ps3 encrypts disk with its unique encryption key. If you think about just moving a disk from one ps3 to another keeping all data - forget about it.

Eh, so its pointless moving my CFW from one console to another, huh? Anything that works as a "untie PSVita" ? I can use my 8gb card with any console, so I wonder if I can do it with ps3

This error means that one of RAM couldn't start. It could be a faulty RAM, I had error 2002XDR link not initialized but I made a mistake with a cpu reball. If you didn't reflow this board I think IT will be dead ram.

Hi to all, (sorry for my english)
Please help me to understand what's happening with my PS3 FAT CECHK03 (DIA-002 mobo). It disconnects/ shuts down after 20-25 minutes no meter what I do , watching movie or playing game or just seating idle in XMB , the temperature is ok around 50-67"C . I've installed PS3AdvancedToolSet and extracted syscon errors log a few times:

RSX chip was reballed long time ago, CELL wasn't ever reballed.
Yesterday i changed nec/tokins with tantalum capacitors (yellows ones 477J 16pcs instead of 4pcs nec/tokins)) all from backside of mobo(not from chips side) for both cell and rsx chips but anyway my console still disconects / freezing after 20-30 minutes :(
any help will be appreciated, Thanks.

either it the clock generator or cell about to say bye-bye

Try to unistall all homebrew apps and install again cfw. I have read that homebrew apps caused a soft conflict and PS3 had 1601 and 1701 error. That person WHO unistalled all homebrew apps wrote that this problem never come back so give it a try.

Hi , unfortunately it's not my case :( I've not remove all homebrew apps I even installed new clean HDD(SSD) and reinstalled CFW 4.90 Evilnat (on 4.89 Evilnat) and at the end the same bad result - mobo freezing and disconects after ~30min with same syscon's erroes 1601 and 1701 :( i'm really upset - it seems CELL issue is present - needs reballing ...

That is quite an assumption . In reality this could be anything from a faulty Hard drive to BGA to dying RSX, to any other issues. If Cell died, it wouldn't even be getting to the 1701 stage to set the errors. in my opinion the fact that it can flag these errors only proves it's functioning fine.

Here I had a 1701 error among others and it had nothing to do with Cell in the end.

You are ignoring that your RSX has been reballed once, so it was faulty before. It's possible it needs replacement, not a reball. These errors can be caused by a variety of things, but it doesn't mean Cell specifically is at fault. All it does is report the errors.

Hi to All - so finally i got new chip (IRF7328 /SO-8) and i change it instead of failed one - the BD drive starting working ok (accepting and ejecting all disks now) ,of course I reinstalled back again CFW 4.90 Evilnat (CEX, full-with BD/BT support) . . . but again no luck for me --- the console shuts down anyway exactly after 21min again with 3 beeps (ylod) :( and the SYSCON errors log showing at this time only 1701 and 14FF errors, but no more 1601 (look log below)... so I don't know what to check more :( . Whatever I think the problem is CELL the BGA balls under DIE :( ... correct me anyone please if i'm still wrong and maybe someone have another suggestions for me that will help me because I don't want to throw this mobo to garbage I still hope that I will find solution even if I will need to find someone good specialist to reball this CELL CPU (because there I found out - that is no chance to swap with another CPU from other console).

Hello, I recently bought a non-functioning PS3 FAT (CECHL04) from a flea market, it cannot turn on due to the famous YLOD.

Thanks to your thread I got an idea to try to fix it, I bought the USB to Serial adapter and thanks to your tool I managed to get these error codes:

# A0093004 FFFFFFFF

If I understand correctly I should change the NEC/TOKIN of the RSX and this is where I'm lost.

What exactly are the NEC/TOKIN to change? The 0E108 or 0E128 ones? Also, I don't quite understand if I have to replace them each with 4 of 330uF or 4 of 470uF

Thanks a lot in advance and congratulations for all the research work behind it so far :D

Hi all, I'm after some advice here as I've acquired a CECHC02 with liquid damage. Cost me next to nothing but I'd love to get it going again, and I've been ripping my hair out for the past couple of weeks to try and figure out what's happening.

So to start with, it was a glod, however booting into safemode revealed it did give a picture, I just had to force it to safemode for that to happen. Easy enough. It didn't have a hard drive so I put one in it, but no matter what I did, it couldn't install the firmware to the drive, giving a 'can't read HDD' error (I don't remember the exact code).

Anyway, I opened it up to clean the sata port with IPA and a brush and put it back together to try it again, then boom, 1 second YLOD. Scanning the syscon told me there is a short somewhere in the 5v. It's an A0022110 error, and before that error it was 1001. I tried the two ceramic capacitors on above the CPU but they were working perfectly, and I've been prodding around the board with a multimeter for ages trying to work this out.

My RSX voltage is a steady 1.1v when powered on. However my CPU voltage *sometimes* is 1.6v but usually is either open loop, or like 0.3v.

I tried replacing the Tokin caps on the CPU side to see if that makes a difference but it did not, the exact same behaviour.

I'm a bit of a noob with this stuff, so I'm not great at reading the circuit diagrams for the cok-002 board but from what I've gathered on all the ICs and mosfets I've tested, all looks good.

Has anyone experienced something like this before?

Cheers guys

Ok, I'm stumped here. This is the second PS3 I've seen with error A0805FFF (first was a slim KTE-001, this one is super slim MPX-001). First one had nothing big made to it, and this one only has an 1117 regulator for the wifi chip and a bulged rtc button cell... nothing else visibly wrong. Does anyone know what A0805FFF means?

alright, i found another post on page 23 that says it was the CPU. Honestly it's possible because this one had a ~2cm dab of shitty white silicone grease as thermal paste on the CELL. I'd like to know what the 5 FFF means though, it's not covered in the error table so it's weird

thanks for the answer, it's not clear what to do next, to warm up the RAM?

This error means that one of RAM couldn't start. It could be a faulty RAM, I had error 2002XDR link not initialized but I made a mistake with a cpu reball. If you didn't reflow this board I think IT will be dead ram.[/QUOTE]

I was messing around with different firmware versions on my CECHC04 and noticed that If you downgrade a CECHC console (and i guess this also applies to CECHE console) to firmware 1.02 and try to play a PS2 game, it shuts down with a blinking red light. When i look at the syscon errors it generated the fault: 0xA0801701 (BE Attention). I don`t know if it`s already a known cause of the fault: 0xA0801701 (BE Attention), because i couldn`t find much documentation about a CECHC downgraded to those very old firmwares.

I am having trouble getting the Windows 10 GUI to work. It keeps repeating either Program Error (gives "FFFFFFFF Answer length" in debug console) or Auth1 response invalid (nothing else in the debug console).

I have soldered wires to the Tx and Rx pins on the mother board to the RxD and TxD pins of the syscon respectively. I have connected the GND of the syscon to the chassis of the console via the grounding screw. I have not connected the Diag pin of the console to anything.

The motherboard is a DIA-002 model and the syscon is a FTDI USB Breakout 3.3V/5V serial converter. I have the datasheet if needed.

I would love to be pointed in the right direction if you can help!

Cheers.

I added these pictures to my tutorial. Thanks for them! I did not add the chart at the end, I felt it is a bit to advanced for a beginner's tutorial. However, I could add a more advanced section, but someone will need to compile a list of commands that generates the info we think would be useful to have. For example, what command generates the above information?
Is it available Rx tx syscon pad position for PS3 super slim 4004A motherboard MPX-001?

Error 0xa0201b01, cell core is starting, it's getting warm, but this is immediately YLOD.

I'm afraid you have just killed the CELL, the VDDIO (core vdd) has died - resistance on the nec tokin lines will show above 5ohms or more.

Reason i know this is due to me doing the same, lolz

I would advise you do it using the comand terminal. Here's a tutorial.

Hi all,
I got PS3 2500A JSD-001 SW2-303 with GLOD with a strange error in the errlog. The behavior when pressing the power button is very typical - pressing the power button, 1 second and fatal shutdown.
Code:
>$ ERRLOG
# CODE CLOCK
# A0111B01 FFFFFFFF
…
When launched, the following is displayed in the terminal, I don't know how useful this information is:
Code:
# [SSM] Clearfatal Start.
# [SSM] Clearfatal ok.
# (PowerOFF State)
# [SSM] Bringup Start.
# [PowSeq] Error:A115
# [SSM] PS0 ng.
# [SSM] Cond/Fatal received, msg=24D0.
# [SSM] Fataldown Start.
# [SSM] Fataldown ok.
# (PowerOFF State)
Having studied the error definition page, I did not find error 1B01 there, the maximum that is there is 1902 rtc error. There is no doubt that this is 1b01, this is not 1801 or 1601. I would like to know if anyone has thoughts about this error.
On the board, measurements did not reveal anomalies at obvious control points, all resistances are within normal limits, the main voltages are available at that second of switching on, the fuses are all in good condition. I thought the errlog would give the cause of the problem, but created only additional questions.
Additionally, I wanted to know if the additional power supply on the jsd-001 board for the bluetooth module should be 2.4v or 1.8v? On an earlier version of the slim it was 1.8v, I did not find any information here.
I apologize in advance for possible errors in the construction of the text, this is a machine translation into English.

I have the exact same symtoms and syscon error code.

Any updates or anyone else have any idea where to start looking?

All NEC/TOKIN are now replaced with no change.

DYN-001 board, PS3 Slim, CHECH-2002A

It would be helpful to see the full errorlog, not just the last one in the log. Other codes preceeding it can lend context to the current code and help build a story. Also, other notes about the condition of the console would be useful. Such as any visible damage, missing parts, amout of dust, whether or not the console was previously worked on and if so what they may have done (flux residue, scortching, replaced parts...etc), and so on.

Not trying to be a prude, but just posting one code doesn't give us much to go on. Especially one that hasn't been entered into the dev wiki. Clearly we've not encountered it before and don't know what it means. So of course we need more context.

Please provide the full bringup, becount (if possable), and errorlog when asking for help. Otherwise, how can we? Error codes can be, and often are ambiguous and need to be placed in context with other evidence to make a diagnosis. Rarely are the diagnostic on their own.

Bought a PS3 CECHC04 a few days ago for really cheap, just 30 euro`s. It has datecode 8B, thats the newest CECHC04 i`ve ever seen (and possibly one of the very last BC ps3`s)! It was advertised as a YLOD, and i was very surprised when it turned on after i received it. I couldn`t notice any problems so i updated it to 4.90 and checked out info about the console on bgtoolset.com, just over 90 days of on time! I also checked the errors and found the following:
AJFCJaUXlVv-G-aU5CVBj5uI--quy_t84tu6ssFwgXAHbzJvsSt_Yab8vRzXTuIqpAGsm36PZXsFZqdx9nEQ3sInqSvsVH6RtuB85tEk1SR_X_H4OIFRtrTD5e46ceNGBw-IXU5z-wsm07RYX5x3St-9hS_5n_1tiszTB0r8gefRK4DFgh22LMJI-WaWjPGfJe9Tqq5RZGKrR6tzoa-hxHs3851YjbwAvc5cPSF4q3Vl27vGfhxJGldBVKYqFvgtBk4zYjVLI_xHfXkqoVboPjV21bFnaD5I0RgcJo454u3N2TADVsT6ChpiWTMJql8kcjmhJXkDuhUqHylOuImEdlxFowOSuXtNXGKFY-feYm7zrlYjb9xly5HtROcOP_4ZjfSnvgflh_2ujPf86mReSib4dOf5tBxYUd59WFexDs1Map4YZxh-1ocLXP5QFcKqg1zWI9Y5NS1rxT6zLs9JlR4s_HmAN9nbGwA7rnEUA-UtNBlhDwXS5ZOe_0St..png

I left for a call and when i came back, the console was off with a blinking red light. Now it doesn`t turn on for long enough to see the errors, and sometimes it instantly turns off with a blinking red light. What could cause these errors? I think this should be an RSX BGA/Bump failure right?

Yes. Given that errorlog and your story, that sounds like a GPU solder joint. If you can get it to boot again, check bgtoolset. If there's now a 3034 then it's confirmed. If you can't get it to boot you can wire up manually.

After a lot of tries it booted long enough to get into BGtoolset and open the errors. Here are the errors:

So no 3034, but a 3037 and a few 2203.
