FreeHDBoot keeping my PS2 from restarting in front case button

Hello everyone,

I got a cheap PS2 5000x fat model that I upgraded with the HDD stuff. After I completed the install and configuration I immediately noticed two things:

1. The fan is always spinning at max speed with the HDD inserted, which I read that it's normal for that to happen (but after lubrication it's not that big of a deal anyway)
2. The PS2 won't restart through the front case button anymore with the HDD, but as soon as I turn it on without the HDD it does restart through the button again.

I read about the controller shortcut to soft restart the system in most games, but I would like to know if this is normal in any way as I didn't see it talked about anywhere and if there are alternatives to this beyond the controller shortcut when I'm in a game.

One last question please: How do I configure the system to soft reboot directly to the OPL games list?

Thank you for all your help and replies!

0. How did you install what in the first place?
1. Normal.
2. Normal.

Got the HDD SATA adapter with a 500GB HDD, FreeMcBoot memory card, formatted the HDD, took it out to install the games in it through HDL Batch Installer, upgraded the Art though OPL Manager, and reinserted the HDD. I think that's all I did really if I recall correctly. OPL Loader 1.0

Thanks for the quick reply

Do you mean it power-off or it does nothing?

Normally when the HDD is powered on, you should be able to power-off the Ps2 (one tap on the button) and also reset (double tap), unless some app is preventing it, in which case best thing is a soft-power-off.
But keep in mind that on a minority of games you'll need to hard-power-off anyway 'cause MODE 6 doesn't work as expected on them.

For rebooting to OPL, simply insert the path on IGR OPL settings. For example if you have OPL.ELF into +OPL partition: pfs0:/OPL.ELF

Or, if you want to be able to go anywhere else after a IGR, leave the path empty and simply set OPL as autolaunch in E1 Shortcuts on FMCB Configurator.
This way you can go, let's say to Ulaunchelf or OSDSYS after an IGR using a button shortcut when needed.

Thank you, what I mean is that it doesn't reset from the case button meaning nothing happens when tapped the light just blinks one or twice, and powering off from the button takes some moments more holding the button than it would normally. If I take the HDD off, it resets as normal by tapping the front button, and it takes less time holding it to power off than it would with the HDD. If some app within FreeHDBoot is preventing it I wouldn't know, it's my first time dealing with all of this

It is normal that it happens with certain apps yes. Normally when tapping the power button once it will shut down the HDD, then the Ps2, unless you immediately tap it again , in which case the Ps2 will remain powered on and reboot.

You can do it from OPL menu, from most games, from ulaunchelf and most apps (like POPS). I think also from OSDSYS, unless your console has a modchip that doesn't let the HDD to be powered down (like a Ps2 I'm setting up these days for a relative).

Anyway I hard-powered-off dozens of consecutive times with many HDDs when doing tests the past years, never got any of them broken.
