this is going to be my legit system. I created a new psn account just for this system (and eventually for the ps5), I installed a 1TB hdd (not that it matters much anymore), and I've fully optimized everything. tomorrow, I plan to buy four games on psn. I'm going to keep the system running all day just to see if it's in working order. I had no issues getting everything ready on the system. it was very quiet. it did take a while to transfer everything from internal flash to the hdd. god, was that slow! the internal flash was empty though. the only hiccup I've had is with the controller. the dpad kinda sticks. I'm hoping that the seller can send me a replacement, but if not, I can buy my own (hoping to get one new if possible). my friend warned me about the disc tray cover with the super slim, that it was very sensitive. he was right. I already bought a sealed disc game, but I kinda want to go all digital again considering games can still be downloaded after the psn store closes, and I might as well make the most out of the 1TB hdd. the store on the pc no longer shows ps3 stuff apparently, so I have to go through the store on the system itself. I was kinda surprised by the prices. tales of symphonia chronicles, which is both ToS 1 and 2, is only $19.99. I would've thought it would've been twice that, so I'm really exited to get these games. I put the system in place of my nvidia shield just to test. I plan to replace the cfw slim tomorrow or Saturday. :D

i'm looking for a vita myself if there is any left after bills paid when i get my stimulus.

I just bought some games. sucks that you can only have 10 things in your cart at one time. plus, it doesn't seem to allow you to add more if you're downloading something. I'm not sure why, but my paypal account wouldn't go through even if putting it up on my account manually. maybe paypal is no longer accepted for the ps3? anyway, I bought a few games. that dlc for tales of graces f is expensive as hell. the costumes, which are the main thing I wanted, are $3.99 apiece. damn is it slow at downloading compared to current consoles too. it might take several hours just to get this stuff. though, the switch is pretty damn slow at downloading too compared to my normal internet speed at around 115Mb/s.

If you have the console horizontal, opening the lid with your left thumb, put the middle finger in the tray way to keep it from banging.

But if you put the console in vertical position, the tray will open gently, try it.

About the pad, especially if you buy a new one, I suggest you to always charge it on Ps3 USB (or a USB you're sure have the exact same output as Ps3). I fried 2 DS3 batteries charging the pad on the laptop USB.

On DS3 when the battery is good it can last months, it is much more durable than the DS4.

I started buying the tales of dlc, but after looking at the prices for the costumes (which have never come down afaik), it's just too expensive. it's like $150+ for the dlc for three games.

I've been charging my DS3 and DS4 from my Desktop USB without any problems. Might be some problem with your laptop USB ports.

I have 2 DS3 and 1 sixaxis 13 years old, all have original batteries and still give backup of about 8-9 hours after full recharge.

I charged my ds3 on my laptop. that's the way I normally charge them. I also use the same cable for the wii u pro controller, and I play the wii u almost daily, so it gets a lot of use. no issues thus far.

Have you had any Super Slim before this one? If so, how would you compare it to other ps3's?
(Might be hard to answer if this is the first super slim)
Been thinking about buying another ps3. I have a slim one how (had the old fat previously), so I'm trying to find out if i should go with another slim or a super slim or just the first one that pops up. Initial thought has been either a slim 320 gb or a super slim 500 gb - to not have to switch hdd right away.

Nice purchase. This is the definitive PS3 console imo. I'd recommend you to use a power regulator if you have one laying around, it could be safer for the 5v regulator.

I had a slim before this. the super slim is actually larger than I thought it'd be. it's almost as large as the slim. I bought a 1TB drive for it, which is probably overkill. I don't plan to have too many games, and if the ps store doesn't function correctly, I won't be able to buy anything. :(

I've been hearing rumors of issues on the psn side. What probably happened is that they had really decreased the number of servers available, and with everyone rushing in to download stuff, the remaining servers are getting maxed out.

I doubt Sony is going to increase the number of servers available (unless they're in some kind of cloud solution already). Maybe we'll get lucky and they'll extend the final date to give people more time. But I bet that in another week or two the rush will die off as people either get what they want, or give up, and then hopefully it'll stabilize.

Haha yeah. That's why I wanna go for a super slim 500 gb (or maybe slim 320 gb), just to not have to go for yet another 1 tb drive for yet another ps3. Gotta save some money for some other systems as well at the end of the day right.

I'd love to eventually get a super slim just so i can add one to my collection of PS3's, but i at least want to fix my CECHC before i invest in another system. Hope you have a lot of fun on your new system! :D

thanks. I didn't even think of that. that's a strong possibility. it worked earlier today, but maybe that's because it was like 5 or 6 in the morning.

if you get a super slim 12GB, you need to get an hdd caddie. I didn't know that 'til my friend mentioned it. I got it before I got the system, so it was quick to get everything ready.

Yeah if I get a super slim I will go for a 500 gb. The 12 gb has always been a mindfuck imo. What is even the point of 12 gb? Must have been a long time ago when even the OS itself was smaller than 12 gb. Maybe when new it was so much cheaper than the other super slims that you would still profit after buying a new hdd? Can't see any other logical reason.

my guess is that you're not burdened with an hdd you're not going to use. it may be for those people, like me, who plan to buy the system, then upgrade the hdd immediately. I wouldn't know what to do with an hdd that small if I were buying the system with an hdd already inside. btw, the copying from internal flash to hdd is very slow. it took 20 minutes or more, then it took another several minutes to fix the data on the hdd once it's been copied. I didn't have to reinstall the firmware or anything, but it would've been quicker doing that.

It's a rip-off!
Also I noticed (since a long time actually) that prices on Ps3 PSN are overally much higher than on Ps4.

I have 2 DS3 and 1 sixaxis 13 years old, all have original batteries and still give backup of about 8-9 hours after full recharge.

I also done the same with my first DS3 and no problems for a while, then the battery died. I didn't thought about the notebook USB, but then a couple of days ago I charged my other DS3 on the notebook and also its battery died (immediately this time).

The pad is 8 years old (I got this with the Ultra-slim Ps3) and the battery was incredibly durable (it almost seems like the duration even increased over time), much more than the old pad. A friend of mine finished MGS PW HD and started DKS1, playing for about a month and when he gave me back the Ps3, the pad still had more than half charge (he never charged it). He was impressed indeed being used to the Ps4 pad that you have to charge every couple days.

I always charged that pad on Ps3, connecting it as soon as the battery message appeared (very important to not let the pad completely discharge) and leaving it plugged until 100% charged (I'm close to the console so I can play while the pad is charging).

My notebook USB ports are perfect (it has two 2.0 and one 3.0), but not all of them release the same tension apparently. It is like on some Samsung TVs when on one USB you have the write "HDD" and if you connect the HDD on the other USB port (that's for pendrives) it appears the overload warning message.
Probably I connected the first pad to a "good/compatible" USB first times, then connected to another and it died.

And Pinky: If you think your 1 tb hdd will come to little use on legit PS3 when Store closes down and so on, you can always go with physical games if that's not a problem. They go for dirt cheap out in the wild. Updates still available as for right now, doesn't seem to be affected by this latest closures. And Game of the Year-editions is complete with all the DLCs obviously. And yeah, PS3 games and Game of The Year ones in particular might go up on ebay as result of storefront closing, but out in the wild you still find them for next to nothing. I've built almost my entire PS3 collection the last 3-4 years for scraps from marketplace, second hand thrift stores and yard sales.

my ps3 at the moment is sitting on a place mat. I haven't replaced my cfw ps3 as of yet, not 'til this account thing is sorted. unfortunately, retail games of the tales of series have no game of the year. the main game I wanted to play was graces f. other than the tales of games, which I bought all of except for xillia 2 due to the store issues, I want to buy ratchet and clank, sly, and jak and daxter. those have little dlc from what I remember if any, so those could be good candidates for games to buy. my favorite genres are platformers, adventure games, and rpgs in that order.
