What are you talking about?
To my knowledge, there has not been a single full brick caused by the PS3 Toolset (as long as strict mode is not disabled) reported since its initial release so I dunno what you are referring to.

And if ever you bricked because you turned strict mode off (despite the warnings) and applied an inappropriate patch file, there's nothing to do, no workarounds, no solutions, the PS3 Toolset cannot prevent that kind of problems. Anyone experiencing this kind of situation will probably need a hardware Flasher to get out of it.

hello I have a ps3 phat model cechc in ofw 4.88 and I would like to upgrade it to cfw 4.88 with PS3 Toolset,
despite having followed the prerequisites (java activation, flashplayer, cookies and date and time settings)
after having entered the address ** www.** ** www.ps3xploit.net > D... (NEW URL = http://ps3toolset.com)/bgtoolset I arrive on the home page of the site and after a few seconds everything freezes,

I have to force the shutdown of the ps3 and then after restart check and rebuild the system please help me after several tries i don't know what to do

a few people have reported that removing any memory cards (sd, memory stick duo, etc) from the memory card reader or unmounting virtual memory cards (ps1 and ps2) can fix the freeze.

please let me know if you get past the freeze. good luck :)

Hello, unfortunately no, it remains frozen on the home screen, nothing is virtual or physical, I tried by creating another profile but no change, I hesitate to restore the default settings, when do you think -you ?

Hello I have an old fat PS3 which years ago I had custom firmware installed an external 1tb hd with loads of games on I was great and I loved it . Then the missus let some kid update to ofw and I stopped using it. That was 2013 and at the time there was nothing I could do about it without removing the chip to flash. Now I'm thinking of dusting off the cobwebs and having a go again. A question.. if I have an older OFW than the toolset mentioned will I have to update the OFW to one which is compatible

yes. update to any OFW from 4.80 to 4.89 and then follow my guide above or @MrMario2011 youtube video.

You would be correct with that. I would suggest downloading an archive of update 4.88 (PlayStation 3 System Software Update 4.88 : Sony : Free Download, Borrow, and Streaming : Internet Archive), and then putting it on a USB drive formatted as FAT32. It also needs to be in a specific folder format. So just create a folder on the root of the USB titled "PS3", then inside of that folder, another one named "UPDATE", (its important that these are all capital) and then drop the .PUP file inside of that one. From there boot up the system normally and then run the install from external media option. Now that you are on 4.88, run the BGToolset as shown earlier in this thread, and then pick your choice of CFW or HEN. Hope this helps!
 
Hi thanks for the links have downloaded the pup files and put on flash drive and successfully updated to 4.88 anyway have run a direct Lan cable for my fibre connection but most web pages cannot be displayed (80710a06) the link for the toolkit works but then freezes I have waited half hour before switching off PS3 and on reboot I get not properly shut down file system error. Any help would be appreciated thanks

you do not need toolset for hen. if your ps3 can use cfw, then you should use it (hen is for non-cfw compatable models).

Yeah, my bad on that one, i've never used HEN, so I dont know 100% how it works.

What you've said is a bit vague, but I'll try my best to make it work.
As for error 80710a06, I would recommend checking to make sure your LAN is working, ensuring you are on the right page and have everything enabled (JavaScript, etc... as listed earlier), and in my case, I used Wi-Fi if that helps.
As for the other system file error you have, this is pretty typical if you force shutdown the console by any other means besides just hitting the power button or using the turn of button on the XMB. Just go through with what it says, and it should check for any corrupted data on the hard drive, then reboot, from there, it should be normal.

that error code is related to SSL. most newer web sites will not work on ps3.

as for bgtoolset freeze, remove all memory cards (physical and virtual). also try different display resolutions. the reason for the freeze is unknown so these things may not help.
 
When will it be updated to work on OFW 4.89 so I can install it on my ps3 slim CECH 2007B and I'm getting a PS3 Phat Soon
Btw I hate HEN it's too buggy it keeps crashing my ps3 slim

You should be good to update i traded my ps3 fat for a new one nd paid the difference when I got it it was on like ofw 2.XX can't remember exactly but I downloaded ofw 4.82 and upgraded to evilnat 4.89 from there
