PS3 (Guide) Jailbreaking With Bgtoolset

OK. Long time no see.

The first time I have got hold of a Cech 3003B (always had 25xx or lower - lucky me)
Never installed hen. Always lucky with cfw
With the access needed to the website, does this mean you can't install hen without it?
Forgive me if the info is somewhere else, but the videos seen all say connect to the ps3xploit
No, you can still install HEN. AFAIK the ps3xploit site is still up.

Thanks very much for that. I've seen ps3xploit.me is still up

One more thing for hen. This PS3 is on 4.85 OFW. Do i have to update to 4.89 OFW before hen 4.89.1?
Or is it not that picky?

Never mind.

Impatience got the better of me. 4.85 to 4.89.1 in 20 minutes. And that was with 5 fails on the installer.
Done

I believe that HEN does not require bgtoolset :)

When I installed HEN on my 3000 series, I used this video - it's really very helpful and a great tutorial:

To give some extra details on the last several post:

PS3HEN can be installed by the NEW official domain at ps3xploit.me (the old domains were taken from the team .com and .net they are no longer valid)

ps3xploit.me has PS3HEN but toolset is down the toolset will have its own domain when back up (but will be linked from themain ps3xploit.me website) PS3HEN does not use bgtoolset, PS3HEN uses HFW (which is an OFW with the 4.82 webkit injected so it still installs on unmodified systems). .

TBH - unless there is a specific reason that you want CFW (like in my case, I wanted to basically "region unlock" the console, PS3HEN will really get you pretty much all you need while the toolset is down :)

translated poem from translate.google.eu.
I brought a ps3 on a trip from a local store, paid without a guarantee on the spot 3. I have a current work process after formatting full data that I did not want to read, I want to use the possibilities of your work and see custom screen* custom cfw* manager storage flash to run at game ps3 in USB driver either. I'm trying to slim down with detailing the icons and stages that I will reach and I will ask you simple questions today. I know that nothing and someone on dc today can join or explain in simple points what to do if I have coustoms 8 files I don't know what they want to do not damage the machine :)

Once step look in **ps3xploit.com >Domain no Longer owned by team** (ps3xploit.me =new) amd have link secound to blocking web http(s)://www.** ** www.ps3xploit.net > Domain no Longer owned by team** (NEW URL = http://ps3toolset.com) > Domain no Longer owned by team** (NEW URL = http://ps3toolset.com/bgtoolset
Game milion videos betwen can try making my idea. Do are Some want wrote ?

@STLcardsWS @esc0rtd3w ...sorry guys i'm sure you get asked this alot, but what's the latest news about BG Toolset? I see on ps3xploit.me is says:- "The BG Toolset should be back online sometime in the near future!"

I've got a pile of PS3s waiting for BG Toolset, and they kept saying:- "do me!" and i just don't know what to answer them ;)

So i say, "if you're good little PS3s you might get a BG Toolset surprize from Santa". Is this just me being over optimistic? :D

any other way of installing cfw?
i did my phat years ago, but couldn't remember how. wasn't there a step you downgrade it to 3.55 and install rebug directly?

i have a compatible slim on the way :)

That's you being silly and silly.

Honestly, to hell with bgville with its bgtoolset. We don't need to be begging for one person.

Use Russian clone or continue on HEN. If bgville really cared about people, he would have the HUGE herculean WORK to dedicate 30 seconds of his PRECIOUS TIME and send a public message stating something real and definitive. Not just mere assumptions and uncertainties.

To hell with Russians and your propaganda. If you cared about people here, you wouldn't advertise broken clones hosted by people with malicious intent. Perhaps you see them as heroes, but I see them as people who exploit and damage the community when help and patience is needed the most.

Bguerville owes us nothing. Especially not you, nor the Russians - the same guys who stole his work and market it as their own. I honestly don't know where this expectation of things coming into your hands "for free" comes from. Nothing is free in this world, development costs lots of money and time. And it's even harder when someone replaces the donation links to their own, directly profiting from the hard work of others. It will be a better world when you and others finally realize this. Sadly, most of the devs will be long gone by that point...

Well, it's not that Bguerville owes us anything, it's just the PS3 community has a huge need for BG Toolset, and one person has the keys to community's needs.

Many months ago there was a fund raising campagne for BG Toolset, and many people from the PS3 community donated. And just like with any fund raising campagne - having information / status reports where the project currently is and what is to come in the future is very helpful.

Most people who donated are probably asking the same question, what did i donate for, what did my donation actually do? Especially when just after people donated Bguerville and BG Toolset both went missing. Alot people donated because they thought this is what the BG Toolset project needed to continue, but the opposite actually happened.

If people are left to guessing, or to imagine what is actually going on with regards to BG Toolset then maybe they will think the worse. I'm just saying transparent status updates, regardless if they are 'good' or 'bad', would be most useful many months later after people donated.

TBH This is one of the most disrespectful post I have seen in months in this forum.
It's too sad to see ungrateful people like you inviting others to break their console.

When i use my imagination to guess what is going on, i keep seeing Bguerville crossing the Mexican boarder with a suitcase of money, bulging with dollar bills, saying to himself:- "screw them, they never cared enough anyways!". I'm just joking of course, but as you can see using one's imagination, instead of actual real status updates, can be a bad thing.

A donation is not a PAYMENT FOR A SERVICE... you are not obligated to donate. Same rights has the other party.

Bguerville has given more than he has received from the community.
Probably I could extend that statement for most developers in this community.

Because the community has a need, it doesn't mean that it has the right to use a STOLEN software. Even worse, one INCOMPLETE and dangerous.

I agree, and i am 100% not using the stolen software, i'm still in the group of people waiting for the real BG Toolset from Bguerville to come back again. Until then i wait, that's all i can do.

My reply was not an attack against you. I only was clearing some of your arguments.

You can use HEN or a hardware flasher until bgtoolset comes back or until a solid software flasher is released.

Everyone with 4.85 or lower still can use the ps3xploit. Although it is not as reliable as bgtoolset and also could result in a brick on some scenarios.

I understand and agree with this. It really is confusing for normal people. Having said that, interpreting this as an "exit scam" of some sort would be the wrong choice (I don't say you do). I personally think it would be almost impossible to cover his costs just from donations. The work that he has done for us is at least multiple months worth of salaries for highly skilled professionals. And the additional hardware itself required to do any kind of work like this costs thousands of USD. Look at the prices of "PS3 DECR" or "PS3 reference tool" on Ebay as an example. That also does not include tools to fix hardware or do some kind of modifications.

Furthermore, there is evidence that the PS3Xploit team is spending money on the actual hosting and domains. All of the domains (I know of 4, not sure if I should share them here) were bought way back in August. This coincides perfectly with what was shared by the team on this forum - some domains are for "private" projects, at least one is for community projects. All of the domains are also linked to a webhosting service, some of them also to paid tiers of Cloudflare (they do have free tiers, but some of the features used here are paid).

Rough calculation of the costs so far: 3 years of .net, 1 year of .org, 3 years of .com, 1 year of .me. 500 Malaysian Ringgits for that. 8x 99 RM for 8 years of webhosting, with a discount for new customers. 1300 RM or $300 total. The cost of paid Cloudflare tiers is anywhere from $20 to $40 per month, depending on the features selected. At least one of the domains has that - 5x $20 to $40 paid by now.

$300 + ($100 / $200) = $400 - $500 spent so far

Remember that I don't have any access to their accounting, so this number is more probably underestimated by a lot. If this was just for a show, they better be escaping with millions from donations :congratulatory:.

I have a better question to think about. How did we get to this situation to begin with? At first glance, you could claim that "Of course, that is because BGToolset is closed source and a private project. We only got to this situation because of his selfishness.". Did we, though?

From personal experience, I can say that bguerville has shared more or less everything about his project. It isn't that hard to go through his old steps and learn about all the pitfalls along the way. But again - it costs time and money.

Was the decision to keep the project private a bad one? Honestly, not all. It brought us a stable and refined jailbreak toolset, together with awesome new ideas. We couldn't have asked for a better reference project to observe and learn from.

But sure it would have been better if there were mirrors based on the public source code, right? I don't think so. Look at the situation with the clones. All of them are out of date and not maintained by anyone with enough knowledge to know how it works, let alone to fix it. And it only makes it harder to make new alternatives, since users by some reason trust clones more than anyone who tries to solve the underlying issue. So what did clones even bring us, other than bricked consoles and sad users? Well... no new research, no bugfixes, no new features... nothing. It's as simple as that.

You make many good points, and i truly mean no disrepect to Bguerville, i just miss BG Toolset and its development / developer.

For the most part I agree but I think it's a valid point that the community relied on a single person's private project and did not bother maintaining alternatives. I know there are good people who work on an alternative method (e.g., trying to stabilize flashing from WebManMod) and that's amazing, but it just happens that there are such good people around; it's not unreasonable that at some point in the future there won't be anyone left to support it and if there's no offline tool available people would have to rely on clones that have a 50% chance of bricking your console cause there would be no alternative.

Well, it's not that Bguerville owes us anything, it's just the PS3 community has a huge need for BG Toolset, and one person has the keys to community's needs.
.

This is where user's and many are wrong, You do not have a huge need.
3.41 / 3.55 / early 4.xx those are times when there was more of a need.
This is a want over PS3HEN .. He has had every intent to bring his work back,.

I believe bguerville made it very clear as many developer do with donation's, this is not a payment or donation for future work or obligations. Rather its support for the work you have used and found useful for yourself and support the cause..

The intention for him is not to have it down, but there is also proper steps to getting it back online and online safely as well.
While in his own free time when personal life events may present little time for a hobby project.
When the developer knows and understand the NEED is not very strong with very capable alternative in the meantime.
He warned and we have warned of the clones. He has done all he can and more besides providing 48 hrs in a single day.

People have not really been left to guess I HAVE BEEN SAYING AND WARNING .. I have the best sources the team directly.
I have confirmed multiple times and even @esc0rtd3w has, yea bguerville could of mentioned more but perhaps there is personal things that have prevented that for a hobby project. No one has been left guessing other then the exact time when it would come back but we have confirmed various times the project was coming back .
