Hey everyone. I'm trying to repair a Playstation 3 Slim, model 3000, motherboard 1-884-749-11, and I'd like to share everything I've done so far to see if anyone can help.
This issue actually happened before:
While transferring files over Wi-Fi, the console would randomly shut down. It happened about four times.
After that, it eventually stopped turning on properly and began showing the current symptoms.
Current situation:
  • The motherboard is not shorted on the 12V line, and there's no short on the 5V line either.
  • When I plug it in, the standby LED turns red as expected.
  • When I press the power button, the green LED comes on, but the console shuts off right away.
Here's what I found using a multimeter:
  • The capacitors above the RSX show a resistance of 4.2 ohms.
  • I get this same reading both above the RSX and on the backside of the board, mirrored to that position.
  • In the Cell processor area, the capacitors are showing 1 ohm of resistance, both on the front and back, in the central area.
My questions:
  • Does this 4.2 ohm reading on the RSX capacitors mean there's a short?
  • Is the 1 ohm reading on the Cell capacitors considered normal?
  • Has anyone seen a similar issue or can suggest what else to check?

Any help is greatly appreciated!
