Help with common PS3 issues (slim turns on only when warm)

Hello, I'm a repairman looking for some help regarding common issues on PS3s. I have a Slim that turns off about 10 seconds after turning it on, with blinking red light, but does turn on and work fine after many tries (when it gets a bit hot). I've seen many with this problem and never really got to fixing any of them, but I'm curious to know whether it's a BGA problem (thermal expansion making it work) or some other obscure problem like capacitors.

Also, is there any good material on common issues like YLOD or instant off, maybe wifi/bt, etc? All I found is the NEC/TOKIN thread, and people say you have to read somewhere in the middle of the 260 pages of posts to find new info.

for what? also doesn't a fixed fan speed provoke thermal stress from the dies constantly going up and down in temperature, instead of staying at around 80°c?

the problem i described is that the ps3 does not even get to the system. what does webmanmod or the fan have to do with it
