PS3 HFW 4.91.1 or OFW 4.91?

Hello. My PS3 is on OFW 4.91. I downloaded HFW 4.91.1 and saved it to the USB flash drive in the correct folders. The PS3 accepts the file and performs the manual update without any errors, but on the system information screen it remains on OFW 4.91.

HFW is essentially the same as OFW 4.91, with the webkit file swapped for the one from 4.82, along with some others that might be in the same tarball file. Therefore, no files are edited or modified, which is why it will look exactly like OFW. We can't modify system files to display 4.91.1, otherwise the PUP integrity and signature will fail and the system will refuse to install it.

In conclusion, it will look exactly like the OFW (excluding the visual bugs that is caused by the layout change after the 4.89 firmware) and the version number will not change under the system information.

You can tell which firmware you're installing from the version.txt iirc. It's read when you're installing only and will display on screen. Most hacked firmware now list what you're actually installing. There's a second version.txt, which might be modified to show the version while on the firmware. I don't remember where it's at, but iirc, it lists the debug information from that secret menu in system settings. I'm sure @LuanTeles knows what I'm talking about.

Thanks for the reply. I'm from Brazil and I think I didn't know how to express myself... I know that visually OFW and HFW are identical, my problem is when I access the menu to check which version I'm on, even after installing HFW 4.91.1 without any error, the version remains as OFW 4.91.

Yeap, the version.txt and license.txt can be modified. IIRC only the version.txt is modified in the official HFW to display the 4.91.1 on the install screen.

The second one you mentioned is the version.txt located in dev_flash/vsh/etc/, which cannot be modified without first patching the vsh.self. It's easier to modify the sysconf_plugin.rco to display the extra .1, but neither option can be done on HFW. The first option is not possible because we can't edit a self or sprx on a non-fully-hacked system, and the second option is not possible because we can't modify the tarball files without breaking the signature.

HFW is intended only for HEN installation, if you're unsure whether you're on HFW, attempting to install HEN will cause the exploit webpage to return a NaN error on OFW.

Maybe @esc0rtd3w could add a modded sysconf_plugin.rco to the HEN installer to display the extra .1 in the system version, but it would be redundant, if you have the hen enabler icon/coldboot ofc you are on HFW.

Well, IMO it's pointless. It would just add more hassle by having to make a new coldboot every time a system update is released, and the version can simply be checked under the system information screen.

Thanks guys! HEN is ok! I was used to checking on the version screen if HFW was ok and I didn't know about this information that no longer appears there. In other words, it creates an unnecessary topic/question... I was afraid to try HEN without knowing if HFW was ok, but if I had tried I would have known it was ok. We can close the topic.
