PS3 How to backup my PS1 games to play on my CFW PS3?

The question says it all. I have some PS1 discs and I'd like to be able to back them up to my PS3. I already have CFW installed and everything.

I saw online that a way is to put the PS1 disc to your PC and use imgburn to create the bin/cue but a TON of malware got installed to my PC when I installed imgburn that I had to completely clean and format my PC using a Windows bootable USB. Quite the inconvenience but needless to say using imgburn is out of the question. It is INFECTED with viruses.

So how do I go about backing up my PS1 discs so that I can play them on my CFW PS3?

Well, there are some freeware CD rippers AnyBurn, PowerISO, Daemons Tools Lite.

If you don't want to have bloatware/spyware installed, try to get a portable version and run it from within the ZIP/RAR file. You can try to get al older, spyware-free version of ImgBurn.

Or you can use multiman to rip your PS1 discs. Follow Mr. Mario's tutorial:

Not malware but adware, and You agree on that clicking ok without reading messages. ImgBurn alone is clean. Unpack installer by 7-Zip or WinRAR. And You should get those files:
Code:
├── ImgBurn.exe
├── ImgBurn.ini
├── ImgBurnPreview.exe
├── lang
│ └── polish.lng
├── log
│ └── ImgBurn.log
├── NeroApix.vxd
├── pfctoc.dll
├── ReadMe.txt
├── sounds
│ ├── Error.wav
│ └── Success.wav
└── wnaspi32.dll
pfctoc is not part of ImgBurn, but DiscJuggler. IB just support it to support MIL-CD.
nero driver for Windows 98 is also not a part.
log probably not exist in installer.
lang you can left all or only chosen one.

You can also use IsoBuster. Right mouse button in treeview on disc icon, then exporting image as RAW 2336 or 2352.

I did avoid agreeing to all the clutter imgburn tried forcing on me and I still got a bunch of stuff installed in my Firefox browser, an anti virus that I never wanted, and a VPN service that was doing some weird stuff. And when I deleted everything manually (as best as I could....I know nothing about tech like that) a .bat file was left over in my downloads folder that I couldn't delete. And I saw weird notifications pop up quickly. There is some nasty stuff when downloading imgburn. Yes the program by itself might be fine. But getting there is scary. Had to completely clean my entire PC and reinstall Windows via USB.

ImgBurn has not been updated since 10 or more years. And I know well what contains. If You download installer from official www, then it is fine. So IMO infection came from different way (installer not downloading adware but installing build-in). Anyway, still You can just not use installer at all. Below are CRC32 of all executables for v2.5.8.0.
Code:
6578c431 ImgBurn.exe
88ced01f ImgBurnPreview.exe
6bc5e21e NeroApix.vxd
fbe53383 pfctoc.dll
2a388af1 wnaspi32.dll

But again, if You do not want mess with it, use IsoBuster.

You can also use ReDump app but this one dumps each disc track to separate file which WebMAN MOD and Cobra/Mamba not supporting.

I just looked and on the imgburn site the first one on there does seem to come with adware/maleware for some reason but only on the "Digital Digest" link, but the other links seem to still work fine so im guessing Digitel Digest added it, the other links seem fine though so try downloading the one from BetaNews since that one seems fine.

Why not from homepage but so called mirrors?
https://download.imgburn.com/SetupImgBurn_2.5.8.0.exe

I just download it, unpacked from installer and checksums of executables doesn't match in compare to mine. That's strange. My imgburn main exe is from 2013-05-24, while on site is from 2016-06-17 which means site has been hijacked and exe replaced by malicious or silent update from author meanwhile.
Code:
d2b59dde ImgBurn.exe
da9ee2e5 ImgBurnPreview.exe
46d3c965 uninstall.exe

yeah i guess a silent update since all links seem to have the newer exe, you can still get the old build if you put the link you gave earlier into the "waybackmachine" and download one from before 2016.

EDIT:- @Berion if you unpack both the 2016 and the 2013 EXE (they are upx compressed) they are identical byte for byte in a hex editor. So possibly he changed the upx version or something maybe ?

EDIT2: yeah just checked and only the UPX version has changed so that is the ONLY difference in the imgburn exe file, the old one uses
3.09
and the new one uses
3.91

Does all this mean I had a virus in my PC when I originally downloaded it?

I did a complete windows format and complete cleaning of my SSDs by using a USB bootable stick. Does that usually wipe all these malwares/adware/viruses out? Or they could still be hiding in my PC?

If you downloaded from the top "mirror" on the site then yes you probably got adware/maleware and i would sugest a scan with something like maleware bytes free version, if you downloaded from any of the other links or from the site itself its fine. The real program has no viruses in it or adware, it is compressed with UPX which some virus scanners do sometimes detect as a virus but it is fine.
