PS2 How to get burnt games running on a fat ps2.

Hey, I am looking for a way to get burnt games running on my PAL SCPH-50003 Ps2. Specifically I want to run NTSCU/J games on it.

I investigated using mechapwn with forceunlock and it didn't seem to work. I'm wondering if that is because it's a PAL console?

I'm also open to non mechapwn methods of making burnt copies run on a fat ps2. Does anybody have any idea about how to make this happen?

(Btw I'm not interested in HDD/USB methods of loading)

Wondering if this is the issue. Do I need a NTSC-U/ASIA ps2 to use burnt discs freely?

On SCPH-500xx and SCPH-700xx:

  • BOOT original PS2 discs all regions directly from the OSD (NTSC-U and ASIA (non NTSC-J) units only)

Sadly, it is, and if you even use MechaPwn in SCPH-70000 units and perhaps other units, you can risk IRREVERSIBLY losing functionality, ranging from reading discs and losing the ability to use the FreeDVDBoot exploit, and/or lose the ability to use FreeMCBoot exploit.

TL;DR: don't bother with MechaPwn

I'm honestly not bothered about losing mod compatibility/ps1 and dvd compatibility

So you're telling me if I do mechapwn on a NTSC-U/ASIAN PS2 5000x I can play unpatched burnt discs?

There's a small chance it'll work without issues like IRREVERSIBLY breaking your console, which has happened on numerous occasions. I don't think it's worth the effort at all, and you're better off grabbing a Chinese HDD adapter

Small chance? It is not random dice roll but math. Besides that, NVM backup is creating before patching for a reason. And for similar reason, You need weaponized himself by FMCB first (for all mg regions and models) to have a way to boot installer to reverse changes in case of newer version etc.

Well like I said I want to use burnt discs on a fat ps2. How the hell do I achieve this. I don't want to use hdd/sd. I'm happy to import a foreign ps2.

Well, why did you think I said "small chance"? Because due to the fickle nature of homebrew project development and how making updates to certain projects can break things, amongst other factors that we realistically don't know, I said what I said for that reason alone. You're better off putting more faith in Scientology than homebrew developers if you want to see results, as much as it sucks to say that.

The only way to do that with an unmodded fat PS2 is patching ISOs with the ESR Patcher app and then using that patched ISO to burn a disc while using the ESR app on the PS2.

If you did force unlock, are you patching the discs? https://www.psx-place.com/threads/playstation-2-master-disc-patcher-for-mechapwn.36547/

Sony fixed the mechacon crash in the later 70000 models, and all 75000 and 90000 ones: https://www.psdevwiki.com/ps2/DSP . It can be risky on the 50000-70000 models but if you use high quality DVD-Rs and burners you can improve the situation and make it a lot less likely. I would never really recommend someone buy the known bad models for mechapwn, but mechapwn is not useless and it's a really great experience on i.e. a 90001.
