PS2 How to safely disconnect an external HD via USB in OPL?

Hello everyone, I'm having trouble turning off the PS2 with the external HD connected

I use a Samsung HD as an external HD via USB, and whenever I turn off the PS2 it makes that noise as if it had been pulled by force

This happens both by turning it off directly using the button, or by using the "Power OFF" option on the OPL itself

I tried the FMCB Shutdown option, but the result was the same

Is there any way to safely shut down?

If not, I will have to remove my HD and use a simple pen drive, because that will end its useful life

I am using OPL version 1.2.0 beta 2201 (FMCB used the latest version 04/13/2019)

Head parking is not implemented.

Instead HDD via USB, you should switch to MMCE. USB in PS2 grants ~600-800KiB/s speed, while on pre-Deckard models, MMCE ~1700KiB/s (~1300KiB/s on Decards).

I tested it with another external HD, this time a Seagate 2TB (STEA2000400)

Turning off using the OPL's "Power OFF" button makes a noise similar to Samsung's, as if the power had been removed

However, when I turned it off using the FMCB Power OFF, it seemed to have done a normal shutdown, I put my ear very close to it, and there was no sound or whistle as if the power had been removed (this happens with Samsung)

Anyway, would you recommend an MX4SIO as a good, cheap alternative?

MX4SIO is slower than MMCE, but faster than USB - it is in between. I wouldn't buy it today while there is superior external storage solution which also emulating Memory Cards.
