And if s/he doesn't have a hardware flasher and/or s/he doesn't want to fork out extra money for the downgrade, then I have to say it is a pretty moronic suggestion, unless you have got nothing to lose and/or you want to sell off your PS3.

Is result of using 9.99 downgrader when you changing hdd... Try this firmwares:

- 3.55 Rogero Downgrader RSOD.PUP download - 2shared MD5: b67747f529d047d63151786544a58b50
- LATEST REBUG FIRMWARE – UPDATED AUG. 2ND 2013 | Codename: REBUG (last position) MD5: 06aa0e07af7ead6e7e4bddf18ea3281f

If not working then say hello to hardware flasher.

PS. This is why i always use my private build 9.98 downgrader, always is good to keep that last chance.

You've just linked to the same downgrader CFW that I have provided earlier on (Rogero 3.55 Downgrader RSOD PUP), but that said, it is bizarre that ThaDraGun is still struggling to get out of the downgrader-modded 3.55 CFW using other CFW.

Worst comes to worst ThaDraGun, try using the HDD that came with your PS3, or as kozarovv said, you WILL have no choice but to use a hardware flasher.

i was expecting this kind of reply .as i have already told him or her that he will need a hardware flasher to downgrade to be jailbroken again after ofw update.i just told him/her as a last option as nothing was working for that person.and i don't think if the person goes out for downgrading it from a repair shop will cost much.i know it was expensive some time ago but now a days they have become cheaper.in my place it cost 20$ maximum and i hope its cheaper other places too but it all depends on the repair shop owner.

I didn't read over every post, but unless there's something wrong with the hard drive, there should be no issue with swapping the drive on any cfw. I do recall Cyberskunk actually testing each new version of rebug to see if there was ever an issue with swapping out the hdd on anything but 3.55. there wasn't.

Why has 3.55 OFW not been installed after the downgrader pup (FROM RECOVERY)?

If you go to 3.55 OFW, swap your drives, and reinstall 3.55 ofw, you can actually install 3.55 cfw or whatever, qa toggle, etc.... go up to rebug... DO NOT USE ANY OFW ABOVE 3.55, DO NOT USE DISC IN DRIVE

So I downloaded - LATEST REBUG FIRMWARE – UPDATED AUG. 2ND 2013 | Codename: REBUG (last position) MD5: 06aa0e07af7ead6e7e4bddf18ea3281f
When I tried to install in recovery it said the same error.
No applicable update data was found
Connect storage media that contains update data of version
9.99 or later, and then press START and SELECT buttons
at the same time.

When I booted into the Rogero Downgrader cfw and installed the rebug through xmb (I thought that wasnt possible when on 9.99) It installed no problem.
My old hard drive is now on Rebug 3.55

Going back in recovery, I now get this error:
No applicable update data was found
Connect storage media that contains update data of version
3.55 or later, and then press START and SELECT buttons
at the same time.

So I can upgrade/downgrade no problem in xmb, but it never works in recovery mode! :(
I need to figure out a way to get the recovery working or else I can never get a cfw on the new hard drive I want in the ps3. It is still blank.

Whoops, I didnt see any of the other posts after the reply from kozarovv.

Just to clairify everything.

I am now on 3.55 REBUG on OLD DRIVE
NEW DRIVE still has nothing on it. No cfw.

When OLD DRIVE is in, I can install any cfw from xmb. I cant install any cfw from RECOVERY.
When NEW DRIVE is in, I can't install any cfw I have tried from RECOVERY.

I don't want to use a hardware downgrader. I dont have one. And would have to purchase one online. Probably not cheap and still dont know if it would work since I can upgrade and downgrade no problem in xmb, just not recovery.

There are no shops in town where I can send my ps3 to get fixed so I would have to mail it somewhere. Not what I want to do.

I will try installing 3.55 OFW. Just found a link.

EDIT:

No luck again!

OLD DRIVE in and ofw 3.55 on the usb. I tried to update from recovery. Same error message like always.
Tried updating in xmb (rebug 3.55) and first try it gave me an error immediately. Should have wrote the number down, but didnt think of it.
Tried updating again and then it just gives me an error saying no update found.

If you are now on 3.55 rebug (not downgrader) enable qa flag, and then try different usb. If you are using usb hdd then try with external power source, also some usb hdd are too slow to be recognised in recovery. Maybe usb drive/stick is corrupted, i updated my ps3 from galaxy S2 so android phone set to usb storage should be fine.

Write what kind of usb stick you are using.

I am on rebug 3.55 now. My original drive is in the PS3
So first step now is I am trying now to update to 3.55ofw, correct?? with the original drive still in the ps3..

I have used many different USB thumbdrives throught all these tests. Right now Im using an older Ocz Rally2 (2GB). I am using this one because it has a good light on it so I can see it flashing or not. Most of the usb I have dont have any light. There are other files on this thumbdrive, but it is formatted to fat32. It does have the folders > PS3/UPDATE/PS3UPDAT.PUP in root.

my first suggestion is to remove everything from the flash drive except the update. sometimes, a 360 won't be prompted for an update if there is anything else on the drive but the update folder. the ps3 may have the same problem. well, it's a start anyway.

I'm confused now. I downloaded 3.55ofw from h t t p://psx - scene.com/forums/downloads.php?do=file&id=17

I'm thinking it's legit because its from that site, however after it installed from xmb(and without any problems) I still have all my jailbreak apps like rebug toolbox, multiman etc. They also run when I click on them. I thought thats not possible on ofw. The rebug boot logo is no longer there and it looks like ofw other than those apps. System info says 3.55

they run on official firmware? installing firmware won't affect the installed apps on the hdd. does the other drive work with ur pc?

The 3.55ofw in the downloads section on this forum is no longer available... so thats why I got it from there. I opened up multiman and it booted. No error. It did not find any games from usb hard drive when I did a scan tho. I also opened up rebug toolbox and it said it was not the correct firmware but it did load. I think Im on ofw but how do I know for sure?

The new hard drive does work in my pc. It is formatted to fat32 I believe.

u might wanna try reformatting the drive on the pc again. one way to know if ur on 3.55 ofw is the md5. ps3devwiki has the md5 for every official firmware.

Is this the right file? It doesnt say ofw but it says retail. This one is the first one I downloaded and installed. Was exactly the same thing, Could open multiman..

that is correct. normally, u should get an 80010017 error when opening an app on official firmware. something weird may have happened when installing the firmware. I know that with 3ds firmware - the system will skip over certain firmware files while updating if they don't need updating in order to quicken the update process. something like that happened here? I dunno. that's weird though.

OK md5 matches. Its OFW.

So what if I go into recovery mode, and then choose the other options. I can't remember what they all were but "restore file system" etc.
Maybe that will fix everything? I just wanted to ask before I did them dont want to mess it up.

rebuilding the database will fix issues with say games not appearing on the xmb. restoring the file system is for people who can't get into the xmb due to some sort of corruption. there's another one, restore system?, which turns the system back into factory defaults by rebuilding the xregistry. u might try each one to see if they affect anything with the other hdd. it's really difficult to say what the problem is if the update isn't found when using one of the hdds. though, the xregistry contains the hdd serial number, so that's at least something to try. did u make a backup of ur hdd btw? u can do that in the xmb.

I dont need a backup. Dont care about losing game saves.
Thanks I will try them out. hopefully it helps
