EDIT: If somehow your TV has got component input, buy even cheapest cables for test.
They should be way better than composite.

Before connecting your PS2 with TV through component change setting from RGB to Y Cb/Pb Cr/Pr:

If you will not change this setting you will only get black screen.

I remember that I've tested this tool (PS2 PAL2NTSC with Yfix 1.08) long ago,
but I have few problems with it (some games will not launch after patching).
With PS2 VFIX 2005 I have more luck.
I just patched the ISO using that, and the only thing it fixed was the color. The screen is still flickery like a bad VCR and the game still runs kinda slowly.

It's weird, so the game is still running at 50Hz??.

Your tv is a CRT then, right?? Otherwise you couldn't perceive the flickering.

Try if setting GSM to NTSC make the game to run at 60Hz.

Yeah, it does have component input. How much would the cheapest component cables cost?

This is what my TV looks like. You can see it's a Vizio TV.

It's a lcd. Weird it doesn't support PAL colors from composite. However you'll solve everything using the component cable.

You cannot be able to see the 50Hz flickering on your tv (it doesn't have a actual refresh rate, it's sample and hold), I think you meant some other effect (maybe some shelling in motion).

However for the 50Hz slowdown problem, try if GSM works. Otherwise you may get the NTSC version of the game.

There is no NTSC version of the game, it's PAL-exclusive. Also, remind me again what GSM is?

Mostly shops with consoles and accessories should have these cables.
Especially the ones that still sell (used PS2\PS3) consoles.

BTW component cables for PS2 and PS3 are the same,
however mostly branded for PS3 have better quality.

I really doubt that you will buy them in a regular electronic (TV, radio, etc) shop,
because they have specific for PS2\PS3 output.

I'm not familiar with Walmart, but theoretically you will find everything there...
try to look at consoles section.

Also if you are from US in link that I posted before you should be able to filter results.
I mean to look only in US. Cable sent from US should be at your door in ~5-7 days (maybe even sooner).

if you live near a target, you probably live near a gamestop or similar store. like @jolek says if its labeled for ps3 it will work for ps2.

most walmarts ive been in lately have been bringing out old stock for clearance so maybe you will get lucky and find something cheap. but best bet is a used game store.

copy protection? until today, I didn't realize that dino crisis (a psx game) contained copy protection. I didn't know any games could detect a modchip, so it would show the warning screen, then an error would occur. I managed to fix it by patching the disc image, but not after a lot of research.

I have Dino Crisis, didn't knew it has that protection (always played it from original copy.

Final Fantasy IX has it (I play it from a backup on a chipped Ps1, 'cause I wanted to play the italian version at 60HZ. So I patched it with Zapper 2000 and applied the ita-specific anti-protection patch). I think even FFVIII has it, Medievil 2 too and some others.

Some emulators (like POPS and ePSX2) bypass it, others (like PSX 1.13) no.

CloneCD has a patcher when excrating the IMG from the disc (but I seem to remember it didn't worked for all games/kind of protection).

So I finally got my component cables, and they work great. The only issue is that the screen flashes blue in between certain times in the game, like when a cutscene ends or when I start a new game or something. Does that happen a lot when using component cables?

Also, when I quit the game, the screen just went black and nothing is happening. Does that happen a lot in certain games?

yeah, I had to convert mine to pal, since the ntsc patch doesn't seem to work. then, I had to build a cue file. I just used the one from the ntsc version, and renamed the files. the game has an animation at the beginning with the hacking group name, which is annoying, but the game works 100%. also, had to mount the bin files with the cue to build a single bin or else the patch said the file size was wrong. there are two tracks: data and music. both must be one with a cue file outlining the tracks.
