PS2 MechaPwn by MechaResearch 2.00

The majority of the SCPH-90000 series have got a newer BOOT ROM with a disabled OSD Update. Those with older one (2.20) do work with the FMCB.

The MECHACON has nothing to do with this.

Hey. I have some questions. Does that mean I will be able to run free mcboot on non compatible ps2 model with this mechacon ??!! and does it change the bios version ??!! I l mean downgrade it ??!!

Nothing which You have hope for in Your questions is possible or have any connection to this hack. ;)

You can run FMCB on none compatible consoles and/or Memory Cards via different exploit, i.e via FunTuna.

Version 2.00 is out.

Changelog:
  • Adds force unlock
  • Adds support for the special 5.06 MechaCon version that was only sold in Mexico
What is force unlock?
Force-Unlock is a very much needed feature for homebrew applications, like Neo Geo emulation,
PS2 Linux for reading CD and DVD-ROM discs.
What it's meant to do is unlock the disk drive for access.

Important note: Every CD and DVD will be detected as a PS2 disc, meaning it breaks PS1 games and DVD-Video.

I installed an earlier version on my PS2, and I am shying away due to this comment.

Should I be afraid?

It is only if you use the "force unlock" option.

You have to patch every disc about to be burned by the Master Disc Patcher 3.0 tool by Loser from the PDX.

I made a test with a Silent Hill backup copy. But it just comes back to the OSDSYS because it is seen as Ps2 CD.

Selecting the ISO with Disc Patcher 3.0 it automatically sets so (it see the ISO as American because i patched the ISO to NTSC. EDIT: https://www.psx-place.com/threads/mechapwn.33498/page-2#post-289106 ):

But the Master Disc option is greyed out when PSX box is checked, so I checked Ps2, thinking it was about the console used:

So then, the game will be patched as a Master Disc automatically even if the option is unchecked and greyed out? Or I need another program for a Ps1 game?

The PS1 discs does not need to be patched as a "Master Disc".

I see.
I'm going to make another try. What do you suggest about the region setting, it matters? As I said it is Silent Hill Pal but NTSC patched. The Ps2 is patched with Mechapwn as a DTL-75004 (it is originally a SCPH-75004).

I was wrong here. It was seeing the ISO as american after the DP 3.0 patch (as Ps2 with MD checked).

Even after patching the ISO (a clean one) to NTSC, DP 3.0 detects it as Europe. So I'll just leave it so.

If you patch it as Europe, the game would be launched in the PAL mode, I think. Why do not use the original NTSC version? All the PAL2NTSC patches make the sound high pitched and videos speeded up.

You have to use the PS1VModeNeg depending on the model.

The PS1 discs does not need to be patched as a "Master Disc". In fact, they cannot be patched as.

Wait a moment. I should patch anyway the ISO with Disc Patcher, or there's not need at all?

I mean, patching it like so:

What actually add to the ISO? Since I don't need to change region.

There's some differences between PAL and NTSC version of SH 1 (especially a file note towards the end of the game that's missing in the USA version), plus there's an italian patch for it.

Also I played several PAL games patched to NTSC without any problem. It depends on games. For example Final Fantasy VIII and IX (it has a very good italian translation, direct from japanise) are simply perfect patched to NTSC. Also FMVs are 100% perfect.

You only need to patch PS1 disc images to change region information, if you use an incompatible console + game region pair.

I'm testing some Ps1 backup copies I already had.

Being the Ps2 patched as a DTL-H75004 this is the outcome:

- Working: all PAL backup copies (also the PAL to NTSC converted games work but the patch is ignored, so they run at 50HZ)

- Not working: NTSC games (either USA and JAP).

So for Ps1 NTSC games I'd nedd to patch the Ps2 to a NTSC DEX model. I wonder if PAL to NTSC games will work (I don't have any NTSC to PAL backup for making the opposite verification test now).
