PS2 MechaPwn by MechaResearch 2.00

Yes, great explanation, I will use MechaPwn for PS2 backups instead of ESR, thanks!

EDIT

Once the masterdisc is created, can I launch it directly or do I need to launch it through wLaunchELF?

If you have existing working backups using the ESR method, there is no reason to replace them. Don't waste discs as you likely won't notice a difference if the game works fine with ESR.

The OSD will not launch a master disc directly (usually). You can use the Launch Disc option, Fast Boot option, or wLaunchElf to start the disc. Sometimes a master disc will launch through the OSD, but I never had time to investigate why. Either way it's not a big deal to start the game disc if you have FreeMCBoot installed.

Sure it isn't. Will try tomorrow, again, thanks very much!

So, I burned a masterdisc patched backup and it loaded just fine. Just one question though, my PS2 seems to load it inmediately, in a way I cant even boot to FMCB without opening the tray first. Is it normal? Is there a way to prevent autoloading? It does NOT happens to me with PS1 games, DVDs or even original PS2 games. Maybe it's a thing of masterdiscs?

It is not enabled, I've checked :(

EDIT

Also, when PS1 discs, or DVDs or original PS2 discs are inserted, I can see the disc icon in the browser, but with the masterdisc, there's no icon at all, it shows the browser briefly where I can only see the MC then the game just boots itself.

2 - From normal PAL to patched DEX PAL, video changes from 576i to 480i.

That's a modification made by AKuHAK, since you're on deckard (from 7500X onward), so you're able to play Ps1 games (original and backups) from any region, but only if the ps2 is set to NTSC (because in PAL mode there's another security check).

Previously (until MechaPWN force unlock mexico) if setting your Ps2 to DTL-H77004, you could only play PAL Ps1 games (or also NTSC games, but you'd need to patch the ISOs to europe region before, than burn a backup copy).
So he made the console to automatically switch to NTSC. It doesn't happen on 50004 (since on them you cannot play games from other regions).

Also on Ps2, Ps1 games video output is forced by the Ps2 bios setting. So in your case Ps1 PAL games will output in NTSC. You can solve this using Ps1VModeNegator or the modified Ps1 drivers.

Thanks for the info!

3 - Not that I'm interested, but, apart from changinf regions and CEX/DEX, can't I change to a different model?

As you've already been suggested, you shouldn't change Ps2 model, like 90004 or 75004 (maybe MechaPWN newer versions don't even allow you to do it, not sure), you can change region without problems of course, but since the modification I mentioned before, it is useless.
(With older MechaPWN revs. best thing to do on your model was to select DTL-H77001).

I'm using latest MechaPWN, 3 RC3, and although I would not do it, there is no option to change to another model.

What about this? Autoboot is set to OFF, and skip disc boot and Sony logo to ON. When using PS2 and PS1 games as well as DVDs I can see the disc icon in the browser but with the masterdisc I created there's nothing, only the MC. FMCB menu shows briefly, then the brower shows briefly as well with no disc icon, then the disc boots (and fails, of course). So I have to power off, leave the tray open, power on, close the tray and quickly select load disc because if not, disc will boot automatically again.

Those don't seem like the default settings or atleast what I use. I don't have skip disc boot or skip sony logo type options selected.

You cannot boot a Master Disc from the browser in the OSD. There is a technical reason for this but it's not important. If your Master Disc patched game is in the drive when starting up, if you set a button to FastBoot you can hold that button and the game should boot. Otherwise you can try the Launch Disc option shortly after closing the tray with the disc. Another option is to use wLaunchElf to select its boot disc option or to navigate to the disc drive and manually select the game executable file to load.

Yes, I know how to properly boot it, thanks, it is from the FMCB menu or from wLE. What I would like is to stop the disc autoloading, because otherwise I need to have the tray open then close it and quickly select load disc, or open wLE BEFORE closing the tray or inserting the disc. And the thing about the disc not even showing on the browser was just additional info, because I found that weird and maybe related to the autoloading thing.

Funtuna and maybe FMCB 1.8 CAN boot MasterDisk patched discs from the OSDSYS "for some reason"! ;)

That... Funtuna... (and maybe FMCB 1.8... IDR) boot... Masterdisk-patched discs... from the OSDSYS...

Yes, and my FMCB installation (1.966) do it as well. But my "problem" is that the masterdisc is autoloading and I can't event get to FMCB menu.

Fastboot off, SkipDisk on?

I'm afraid so. As I said, normal PS2 and PS1 games, as well as DVDs, do NOT load automatically. And their icon can be seen on the browser. With the masterdisc, not only it auto loads, there's no icon when the brower screen is seen for a second. It's weird, right?
