I am on a ps3 super slim 4.87 first time ever installing HFW and I'm getting this message when trying to update

Im using a sandisk 3.2 gen 1 formatted as FAT32 and neither port work

Is there anything obvious that I'm missing?

I would appreciate any help

Make sure the USB storage drive is formatted with MBR and not GPT, as the latter is not recognised by the PS3. You will know if it's formatted properly as you will see the USB drive recognised under the Photo, Music & Video columns on the XMB.

Double check the file path and make sure the HFW is named as below:
X:\PS3\UPDATE\PS3UPDAT.PUP

Try a different USB drive if this doesn't work, or you could also try installing from the recovery menu.

Thanks for the help i tried the recovery menu and it worked and unrelated but I have a question I have the 12GB flash memory super slim now with hen so is it safe if I install a hard drive and transfer everything onto there

Yes it's safe. You might have to reinstall HFW and HEN though.

iirc, you have to use the recovery menu if you're installing the same software version.
