PS3 No Response in Standby Mode / Solid Red Light Not YLOD

UlteriorMethod

Forum Noob
Hello everyone,

Model: CECH-B01
Firmware: CFW 4.88 Evilnat
Custom fan curve set to 70 degrees max in sMAN
Delid and repaste

I tried googling this issue and it seems as this is a pretty rare situation as I really haven't found anything useful on this topic. I am wondering if anyone else has had the same or similar issue. Also if anyone else faces a similar issue they can refer to this thread.

I have been using this system for a long time. The only issue that I sometimes have is that when I insert a PS2 disc to play, the screen goes black and the system becomes frozen. It will not respond to any input at all. When this happens I tend to flip the switch in the back to hard power it off. Seems that I've done this one too many times and now the system is completely unresponsive.

This is not a YLOD. I plug it in and I flip the switch. The red light comes on, but when I attempt to power it on using the power buttons there is no response. I also tried turning it on by plugging in my controller via USB and pressing the PS button, still nothing. Even though there is a disc stuck in there I tried putting one in to see if it would turn on, still nothing. Also tried the fan test as a last resort even though this model I believe does not have the fan test on it. Nothing.

My first guess at troubleshooting would be to open it up and unplug everything except the power supply and the power button, if that doesn't work I'll try a different power supply. If it doesn't work at that point, might try a different power button board with a different ribbon cable. If at that point there is still nothing I would need to measure the motherboard itself for a possible short I am guessing.

Does anyone have any idea what might be going on here? Or is this system DOA and I am wasting my time trying to troubleshoot?

Thanks!

I just tried that after you suggested it and still no response. Will update with my findings here once I take it apart and take a look.

Maybe disassemble to check the on/off PCB, doesn't this model have a small ribbon cable for the separate I/O PCB? Maybe the small ribbon cable is not connected correctly?
