I decided to re-apply thermal paste on my PS3 slim (2501A), so I could run an overclock without worrying about overheating issues. After cleaning the old crusty paste off, I put an even spread of MX-6 on both chips. I put a little extra paste in the shape of an X on both heatsink contacts as well. After applying the cfw (Evilnat's 4.91 CEX OC), I booted up Black Ops Zombies to check the temps. Using Webman Mod, I got ~61C-CPU, and ~67C-RSX at ~%28-%35 fan speed after 2 hours of playing. I booted up the PS3 this today, and did the same thing, using a different monitor at 720p instead of 1080p. In the first 20 mins, the temps- ~63C-CPU, and ~77C-RSX at %25 fan speed the whole time. I don't quite know why the fan speed is different, as it is set to SYSCON currently. I heard about the "rubber" method to get more heatsink contact on the chips, but I don't know what to do. I am open to ideas on why this is happening, and how it can be resoved. Thanks.
