PS3 Phat PS3 getting 1601 & 1701 SysCon errors since I updated to 4.91 CEX CFW

So I've had a CECHA12 PS3 for some time now and it has very low mileage so it's in great condition, not to mention that it's been delidded and repasted so temps are fine. Ever since I updated to 4.91 CFW I've had weird issues that didn't exist before. Like the PS3 would suddenly shut down, do three beeps, and keep blinking the red light. When I turn it back on I get a "Restore system files" option and I do the restoration. The first time it happened it got me worried because I wasn't doing anything, I was on the XMB menu. Then it happened again while I was trying to quit a game (Assassin's Creed III) and it happened again with another game (Enslaved Odyssey to The West). I reverted to 4.90 CFW and I can't seem to replicate this issue, which led me to believe that the issue isn't in the hardware but rather a software issue.

Side note: something else I found strange is the dates of the errors in the SysCon error log, they're all 2006 even though I did install a new CMOS battery. so I dunno why that happens.

Here's the SysCon error log from my system:

OP and I have been talking about this recently. I have a CECHL01 that is very healthy, and it shut down after updating it to CFW 4.91 (the updated one) with 1601 and 1701 codes in the error logs. This unit is my only fat model, my other PS3s are all slims or super slims. I haven't experienced the exact same crash on a slim with cfw 4.91, but I have experienced some instability. OP and I believe that the sudden crashing and 1601 and 1701 errors may have to do with the fat models.

I just wanted to add my two cents here

I've been having a similar problem on my PS3 Slim, but even before the 4.91 patch. It's pretty random: I try to turn on the PS3 and it shut downs completely after a few seconds without image (sometimes it happens mid-game too). If I apply a bit of pressure on top of the console, it turns on normally for some reason, so I'm guessing it might be hardware related in my case. When I open the PS3 to clean it up, it stops happening for days/weeks until there it is again :apologetic:

The pressure on top of the console bit got me thinking that maybe when you disassembled ur PS3 u didn't screw in the pressure plates of the chips tightly enough. try bending them just a bit to make them apply pressure properly on the chips. Just be careful not to over do the bending. Other than the Lockup errors u seem to be getting some data related errors too, which I'm not sure what the cause of them is or what they mean exactly tbh, but something else I notices is the dates of the errors. u're getting ones from 1999 lol how'd that happen?

I honestly have no idea, maybe because the CMOS battery is dead so it went back to default values. I'll do as you said regarding the pressure plates and see if it works :encouragement:

Edit: didn't work but I placed a small piece of plastic covered in thick layers of tape under the metal plate through that hole just next to the blu-ray drive in order to put a little bit of pressure there and it's now turning on normally. Not a pretty solution but gets the job done, just need to keep replacing that thingy when reassembling the console from now on

Update: Ever since I reverted to 4.90 CFW I don't get random shutdowns anymore and neither do I get 1601 and 1701 SysCon errors. The system runs just fine no issues whatsoever. Which leads me to believe that indeed there is an issue with 4.91 CFW on fat PS3s.

Hey there,

I'm having similar issues, to revert back to 4.90, I just need to do an update with that older version of CFW PS3UPDATE file and that's it ?
Thankss

I recently acquired a PS3 Phat model CECHL04 with motherboard version 001 and encountered a similar issue. In my case, the syscon code had only one error of 1601, while all other error codes were 1701. I believe the 1601 error disappeared because I unplugged the HDD. The previous owner mentioned that the PS3 had been jailbroken. Could a jailbreak be the cause of the 1701 error, or is it directly related to the hardware? What did you do in your case? I am asking so I can try it on my PS3, which has the same board as yours.

OP and I have been talking about this recently. I have a CECHL01 that is very healthy, and it shut down after updating it to CFW 4.91 (the updated one) with 1601 and 1701 codes in the error logs. I don't have this type of issue on my both FAT PS3 (one is BC). Can you tell me if do you have any plugins enabled? If so, please disable all, and then make a clean installation of the CFW and check if it does the same

Maybe the change I did in stage0 can cause this issue and it doesn't work fine on FAT, I will upload here a new PUP without these changes to see if it fixes it
