Pinky’s PS3 Tutorials

well, we've tried everything else. the battery icon, for example, comes out to 2KB as a gim if u convert it with rcomage, but with the theme editor it comes out to 1.45KB iirc which is exactly the correct size needed. otherwise, the icon extends over the other icons. that could be what's happening here. the size of the sound byte is rather large compared with the original file.

Alright i will see what happens with the theme editor. I will convert the sound file u gave me with theme editor and copy it back as to the rco as "snd_trophy.ch0.vag" and see if it decides to work this time lol. I am surprised not too many people have attempted to edit the sounds of the XMB. The default sounds are boring lol.

Try using a short sample for your tests, same length as original. Once you have that working then try your 5 second larger sample.

that's a good idea. his original sound byte can be shortened some by deleting the unnecessary silent portions at the beginning and end. @E7ite , u can do so with audacity. just make sure the sound byte isn't playing when deleting or the deletion option will be greyed out. I sometimes forget about that myself.

You wanna try to give users a one stop shop for all their problems. It's very ambitious, yes, but arrogant, not so much imo... [emoji6]

the only thing I'd leave as is is the a9lh guide which is like a Bible for the hack. @Joonie knows what I'm talking about. ;) and, the jungleflasher guide for 360 optical drives. that thing was over 170 pages last time I checked. way too many drives... plus, I've only flashed the Hitachi 78fk and one of the liteon drives. it might be different if I flashed other people's drives, but still it wouldn't be worth trying to rewrite a guide for each drive. :-P

Sorry what's the a9lh guide?

Writing guides for each drive would be great but it requires access to all that hardware... Not an easy thing... How many are there?

this one: https://plailect.github.io/Guide/

it used to be much longer. it took me six hours each for my o3ds and n3ds. @nCadeRegal knows what I'm talking there since it took him many hours too. @Joonie probably knows as well. the time-consuming portions were always the Nand backup. I've been messing with the Wii-U lately, and I backed up my virtual Wii's Nand. that took an hour or more by itself. then backing up each IOS probably took 15 to 30 minutes which isn't too bad I guess. sorry off topic, but from what I understand with both the Wii and the Wii-U is that each IOS is independent of one another, so the system os isn't running in the background whenever ur say playing a game. fail0verflow mentioned this I believe, and they also talked about how fragile the system(s) were due to this. that's y u need to back up each IOS in case of a soft brick which can't be recovered with a NAND backup for some reason. apparently, u can't extract the IOS from such a backup. :)

OTPless ftw!, takes less than a min to setup, though only works on n3DS. :)

The guide for WiiU should be interesting, though I am still waiting for the SALT one

yeah, @atreyu187 told me about installing it (otpless) on his and his kid's 3ds. he didn't want to install a9lh originally since it took so long. he told me it works on the 2ds as well. it was untested, but he tried it and it worked. I think the o3ds is the only one that it can't be done to.

@bguerville u used to need ur otp (per console key) which required u to downgrade to 2.1. there was no 2.1 for the new 3ds since it uses different software from the o3ds, so u had to fix 2.1 to grab it with the new3ds. anyway, each system required the otp, so downgrading (sometimes two times) required u to make NAND backups in case something went wrong.

I didn't know 2DS works without OTP, thought 2DS = o3DS without 3D because it accepts o3DS FW unless I am wrong. Interesting

Yea also another one waiting for this BIG so called release from team salt. although i have to wonder if it will be good enough given how long the scene waited and how toxic it got bc of said wait, entitled little trolls if you ask me. it is nice to see that since the few releases these past couple of weeks the comunity has stepped up and started to make some headway towards getting something worthwhile. i just hope by time salt releases their stuff its not to little to late. on topic, love the enthusiasm here @pinky your guides are always a welcome addition and a nice read if i do say so myself. thank you

yeah, he texted me saying it worked with the 2DS when I mentioned a9lh to him. he also said Math from the ps3 scene was the one who found the region where u could make a9lh otpless. I'm not sure y it doesn't work with the o3ds for the reason u said.

thanks @nCadeRegal . there's so much u can learn on here even if u think u know it all. ;)

btw, @nCadeRegal @Joonie what's this thing about team SALT. I've not heard of it. do u mean redNAND? that can now be done since like yesterday or a few days ago at most.

Not so sure, you can check their announcements on loadiine.ovh though.

Looks like they made some decent homebrews and stable redNAND like the current one with sigcheck patched.

Salt is another team that is privately worki g on something similiar to these last couple of releases, but even that is hard to say bc most of the rumors are just heresay over at gba temp and im sure you know how bad the user base is over there. very imature audience. just a waiting game to see what all the hype has been about, people who say they are close to the devs are very cocky and talk down on anything released that is not theirs and infringes upon their work. at least thays what i have garherwd feom creeping their forums these past couple of months. i beleive marionumber1 and nwplayer123 are devs for team salt. i could be wrong though as i said its all heresay

@nCadeRegal I know both names. I've pm'd nwplayer123 before actually regarding the wii-u. she had access to the hack on 5.5.1 before it was leaked. I forgot the name of the dev who released the current redNAND. my issue is that u have to format the Wii-U NAND to unlink like u had to do with the 3ds. u can't format redNAND or it will brick. I have a lot of games. though, they're on the usb. saves r stored on the usb as well if ur using that. I found that out when I selected the wrong option when connecting it to my computer. the only game I haven't redone is Super Mario 64. ;) I have a selector for my virtual Wii and my normal Wii to where the USB sends its signal between them. it works too. u can't use the hdd when u get to the Wii-U menu though. it will give u an error about two hdds being connected and whether u want to format the other drive. I suppose that's understandable since u can't normally use a usb device with the Wii. ;) I only need to push the selector to send the signal to the Wii or turn off the hdd to fix that problem. :-P
