PS3 Please add support for OFW 4.89

A friend wants to install Evilnat on his PS3 but is on OFW 4.89. Unfortunately, this firmware isn't compatible with the PS3Xploit toolset. As 4.89 is pretty much the same as 4.88, wouldn't it be very easy to add support for the newest firmware?

Man I got myself a big FAT COK but it's on OFW 4.89 so I can't do anything with it except Swap Magic.
Hope this gets updated soon.

Turning up to "TELL" the developer to hurry up has always worked for the past few years. ;)

Let us all know how that's working out for ya.

Never said that anyone has to hurry up lol. I just asked because I didn't know if the developer even works on this.
Anyway, there is a custom version of bgtoolset that works for 4.89 right now. [link removed by mod - please don't advertise this stolen work]

Pretty easy to see from the countless other posts on here asking the same thing.

This is the most I've seen this since the very first Jailbreak.

Threads and messages like this really don't help, especially when the developers are doing this as a volunteer effort for the community.

Donations do help them keep going, though! Official methods to donate can be found here: http://**ps3xploit.com >Domain no Longer owned by team** (ps3xploit.me =new)/

Food for thoughts.

In 24 months of existence, ** ** www.ps3xploit.net > Domain no Longer owned by team** (NEW URL = http://ps3toolset.com) > Domain no Longer owned by team** (NEW URL = http://ps3toolset.com received 227 bucks in donations from 29 people, I would like to express my sincerest thanks to them, it goes without saying but it's better said, you know who you are.

The ** ** www.ps3xploit.net > Domain no Longer owned by team** (NEW URL = http://ps3toolset.com) > Domain no Longer owned by team** (NEW URL = http://ps3toolset.com hosting/domain costs of the first 3 years have barely been covered by donations to date, the renewal in October is still a question mark.

During those 2 years, ** ** www.ps3xploit.net > Domain no Longer owned by team** (NEW URL = http://ps3toolset.com) > Domain no Longer owned by team** (NEW URL = http://ps3toolset.com served dozens of thousands of PS3 users all over the world with very little down time, I don't have the exact numbers in front of me right now, but it's a fair amount.
The server was attacked several times over that time and the Toolset was hacked at least once, possibly more, nothing unusual for a project that can never really be secure by nature.

I have always said that the PS3 Toolset was first and foremost a private project for the long term, the repository of the various tools I would develop on the way to attempting to gain full control of all models from OFW, that hasn't changed, the ambition is still intact.

What has changed though is that what I had hoped to be a private project whose usage would be shared with the public has become a weight on my shoulders.
Making public release worthy tools takes 10x longer or more than what I would spend for myself privately, hence the recurring delays.
If we add to this, first that funding is a constant problem because there's not enough donations to keep the project alive, and second the fact that I now also have to worry about security due to scammers, wannabes and fellow hackers redistributing and/or rebranding my code.
It's becoming a burden I am not sure I want to keep bearing alone, not forgetting Jason who gets a share of it too.

Consequently I have decided to put all public projects releases on hold for the time being while I consider my options and the fate of the PS3 Toolset project sharing concept.

The PS3 Toolset 1.2 update roll out is cancelled, it will remain private at least temporarily as I will not deploy it so it gets pillaged again..
Some might say, this will send people over to clones or whatever, I really don't care, the size of the user base has never been a priority for me so there's no down side, people will do whatever pleases them and live thereafter with the consequences of their choices, just like I do, and that seems fair to me.
As long as they understand they will have to get their tech support, updates and new features from someone else too from then on, I don't have a problem with it, good luck to them.
Finally, instead of the planned 1.2 rollout, I might just add 4.89 support to Toolset 1.1 at some point and leave things at that without fixes or new features until further notice.

As for the Toolset users, I want to say to them it's been quite fun to develop all this, some of it I made for you guys, not for me, you owe me nothing though, I wanted to give you as best I could, that was the whole point behind the extra work and all in all I am quite proud of all the progressive achievements culminating privately in Toolset 1.2.
It's been a chaotic but instructive ride, however it seems to me that we find ourselves at a crossroads, you and me all have a choice to make, the project needs help to remain online, support the project and you might see it live or don't and you definitely won't, your support or lack thereof will carry much weight in my decision.

Thanks for this statement, I really appreciate your openness. I didn't even knew that the other toolset exists because of a hack. Good decision that a moderator removed the link that I posted.

That means that end-users should think about donating to keep the project active. Is there anything else we could do?

The moment I heard about the toolset hack I knew it would bring the original project to a halt.

I understand @bguerville , I'd probably do the same. In my case I've seen how many repackaged "stores" have been made with my PKGI app and that's the main reason I don't want to spend more time or work on it.

of course my case is not a big deal, the code is open source so maybe some other real developer will continue with it.
But here we'll be losing the whole project forever.

So if anyone really cares about the PS3 , I'd suggest to make a donation before it's too late.

it's 2022 people won't pay for the ps3 anymore

in any case if there is an alternative to bg toolset I'm interested

well, if they don't support the ps3xploit project, then 4.88 /.89 might be the last release from the ps3xploit team you'll ever see.
To make my point clear: it is a problem for the community, not for the developers.

And since a big part of the "scene" is made of fools that will just update the firmware next time a new OFW is released, I'm sure I'll see a bunch of fools asking "I updated to 4.90 and lost CFW, help please! I can't live without the ps3 (etc etc etc)"

It's 2022. People won't have more bgtoolset, if they don't donate to show their support to the project.

It is a FREE service to the community, made public in the FREE time of the developer (Benjamin).
The fact is that the hosting service is expensive (a 3 years plan costs between 432 and 1080 USD).

The donations of $227 barely covers a half of the cost of the basic plan. The time is running.

We already lost devil303.com. ** ** www.ps3xploit.net > Domain no Longer owned by team** (NEW URL = http://ps3toolset.com) > Domain no Longer owned by team** (NEW URL = http://ps3toolset.com is pointing to have the same fate.

If people don't care... well that is what the community wanted.

Nobody is asking you to (directly) pay for anything. At the end of the day, in most cases (imo), the work done by devs here is done for their own personal reasons, not directly for the community, and it's done at their own expense, for free, on their own time. Most if not all devs are not doing the work with the expectation of getting paid for it. But what happens with their work is their own decision. You shouldn't be expected to pay for anything, but as a consequence of that you shouldn't have the expectation of receiving anything.

In this particular scenario where sharing the work with the community becomes a financial burden, why should any dev feel obligated to spend money out of their own pocket just to share their work with people who aren't going to pitch in anything? Imo if you aren't willing to put up at least a few dollars in support for something you are asking for, you clearly don't care about the work enough to want it kept around.

@aldostools , sent support to Brandon, Jason and you:-p

Well then, in that case, it will be very simple for me to decide, and they'll get from me the exact same contribution they decided to make at their end ie nothing at all.
Up to them, I am not at all bothered, remember that I am not the one who relies on others to write the ps3 tools I need here, they are, so good luck to them finding someone else to do the work, given the current state of the scene, I wouldn't hold my breath if I were them.

Funny how I expected that kind of post, typical..
Don't count on me to help with any of that.
