PS3 Please add support for OFW 4.89

Excuse my ignorance. I know when I install hen I use .com is one official and one not?

**ps3xploit.com >Domain no Longer owned by team** (ps3xploit.me =new) is managed by esc0, it provides HEN, HAN and most other projects the team worked on at some point or other. Donations go to esc0 for **ps3xploit.com >Domain no Longer owned by team** (ps3xploit.me =new) maintenance and costs.

** ** www.ps3xploit.net > Domain no Longer owned by team** (NEW URL = http://ps3toolset.com) > Domain no Longer owned by team** (NEW URL = http://ps3toolset.com is the home of my PS3 Toolset which is my own personal project.
I just use the ps3xploit team umbrella to host it. Donations go to me for ** ** www.ps3xploit.net > Domain no Longer owned by team** (NEW URL = http://ps3toolset.com) > Domain no Longer owned by team** (NEW URL = http://ps3toolset.com maintenance and costs.

donate to both. Got it

It's not my cause that you would be helping, it's yours, it's ours, it's the community's. I don't need your donations, you need your donations.

It seems to me that anything that brings value to the community should be supported as a matter of course.
What applies to the Toolset, applies to HEN and any other non commercial projects incurring recurrent costs, it also applies to this forum, to the wiki etc.. etc..
It used to apply to all those great sites that died by chronic lack of funding often taken as lack of interest.
Given the number of people in our community, the required individual donations to cover the lot and more should be ridiculously small, probably a few cents a year.
Good point

Just wanted to chime in and give thanks to everyone who has donated so far. It really is a huge burden taken away from having to worry about the domain/hosting/security stuff. All of your donations are appreciated, and there has been enough donations over the years to cover a good amount of the server expenses. I usually pay every 3 or 6 months, and i think bguerville pays yearly, IIRC. Recently we have had more donations than usual, and those should help us keep .com/.net online for at least another year at this point.

Having a hacking competition would be a cool idea, as @bguerville mentioned to get lv1 and higher exploitation moving along, plus probably find other unknown cool things in the process. If the donations exceed the expenses, then we could pay the bounties, with some set prize amounts for each one. I don't want s#ny knocking on my door.

But yeah, I'm no lawyer lol

You Guys (and Gals) Rock :quartet::quartet::quartet:

I didn't even know they were separate sites until you mentioned it and I'm pretty sure there's a lot of confusion.
I really suggest you open a separate thread and write everything in detail. That way people won't miss it.
Also you may want to see if the .com owner is willing to pass some of the donations to you because I'm pretty sure some of the donations intended for you went there.

I'm gonna give my two cents here.
I've checked the Russian version of Toolbox for 4.89 and the README comes with this information written down:

"""
# bgtoolset
[bgtoolset 4.89] (рабочий сайт)
This is a dump of excellent Ps3xploit Team [bgtoolset](** www.** ** www.ps3xploit.net > D... (NEW URL = http://ps3toolset.com)/bgtoolset/). **I'm not an author of any of these tools**, all credits go to
Ps3xploit team.
<p align="center">
<b>Supported versions: 4.80 - 4.89</b>
</p>
## IMPORTANT INFO, please read carefuly.
- **This is NOT official repository of bgtoolset**. It's a dump which I made for myself, to be able jailbreak my console if for whatever reason [Ps3Xploit](** https://www.**ps3xploit.com >Dom... Longer owned by team** (ps3xploit.me =new)/)
website goes down.
- **Use this mirror as a last resort** - you should always go to [bgtoolset page](** www.** ** www.ps3xploit.net > D... (NEW URL = http://ps3toolset.com)/bgtoolset/) first, and use tools provided there.
Not only they are more reliable, and written by people who actually know what they're doing - they're also always up to date.
"""

To sum up:
1. They give proper credits (and links) to the original.
2. They prompt users to go to the original source first and foremost and use this only as a last resort.
3. They make it clear that the original is more reliable and this one is experimental and buggy.

What I'm trying to say here is that I don't see any need for any drama, it seems these people just wanted to have an alternative for themselves and those impatient users that can't wait and don't care about risks of bricks.
Now I understand the author not liking his tools used without his permission, but to be honest stirring up drama will probably have the opposite intended effect.
I would personally simply ignore it an move on, but of course the original developers have the last say, I'm merely giving my opinion here.

That said, I'm very happy that the developers of this awesome utilities have found a proper reaction from the community in their cry out for help and I hope this donation drive keeps on going and doesn't simply stall as a one-time moment.

You might be right but you know what, I don't think I will do anything about it, I am sick of having to take care of this donation shit, again and again, so no more.
Instead I am going to take well deserved time off.
I leave everything in the capable hands of this community and let you guys sort it out, people can donate or not donate, at this point I am way past caring.

As to esc0, we have been working together for long enough, went through many ups and downs, we survived them all so sharing donations isn't going to be an issue.

They reused someone else's dump of my files and readme hence the contents.

In any case, that code is private, it's mine and nobody else's, I don't recall giving anyone license to dump it, redistribute it or host it so I don't really give a flying f#ck what credit they might give and to whom.
In that context, I believe that drama would be my prerogative, yet did I provide such drama? No, because I have been more annoyed with the community's lack of support than I am with the little prick that leaked my work, the leak is just one more thing, hastening a situation that's a long time coming.

I'm not saying you started any drama don't get me wrong there, I'm saying it could potentially start some (specially Streissand effect as others mentioned) and I think it's useless to give this leak any more attention.
I agree it's your work and you decide what to do with it, so whatever your decision is we will stand by it. I think you should move on and if taking some time off this project (how much you need) helps you clear your mind you should definitely go for it. You have already done much more than anyone could ever wish for.

Brother, take some well deserved time off, time can heal all wounds, and we look forward to your strong return.

** ** www.ps3xploit.net > Domain no Longer owned by team** (NEW URL = http://ps3toolset.com) > Domain no Longer owned by team** (NEW URL = http://ps3toolset.com hosting renewal is every 3 years, due in October 2022.
Donations triggered by this thread seem to have benefited **ps3xploit.com >Domain no Longer owned by team** (ps3xploit.me =new) mainly for the time being.

IMHO That's normal that most of the donations go to **ps3xploit.com >Domain no Longer owned by team** (ps3xploit.me =new)
1- Both domains use the same name with different top-level domain. This caused a severe confusion even to me.
2- People tend to relate .com to any domain. Therefore **ps3xploit.com >Domain no Longer owned by team** (ps3xploit.me =new) is and will be more popular than ** ** www.ps3xploit.net > Domain no Longer owned by team** (NEW URL = http://ps3toolset.com) > Domain no Longer owned by team** (NEW URL = http://ps3toolset.com
3- ** ** www.ps3xploit.net > Domain no Longer owned by team** (NEW URL = http://ps3toolset.com) > Domain no Longer owned by team** (NEW URL = http://ps3toolset.com is a link inside **ps3xploit.com >Domain no Longer owned by team** (ps3xploit.me =new). So many visitors may think that it is a sub-service of **ps3xploit.com >Domain no Longer owned by team** (ps3xploit.me =new)
4- CFW has existed for more than a decade. So most of the CFW-compatible console owners already have CFW or are not interested in CFW. Only a small amount segment needs bgtoolset.
5- bgtoolset is mainly a "one-time tool". As result it's a use it and forget it.
6- **ps3xploit.com >Domain no Longer owned by team** (ps3xploit.me =new) is the opposite of points 4 and 5: most slims 3xx and super slims need it and people need to visit the site regularly for install, enable HEN or even to use bgtoolset.
7- bgtoolset is a FREE tool. People tend to sub valuate free things.
8- As it's free to use, some people may think that it is a COPYLEFT tool, which is not the case.
9- bgtoolset doesn't even mention what kind of license it has (apart of a few recent posts where you clearly express that you're against dumps).

Until this moment it was unclear that the issue is the lack of support from the community. From twitter/this thread, it looked like the issue was originally the Russian cloners or maybe the unofficial dumper that served as base for the copycats.

Honestly I feel you're giving an ambiguous message: is it a private project or a public one?

As I commented privately, take your time and decide what to do with the future of this fantastic project.

How many times have I talked about funding being a problem in this very forum?
So many times I cannot count them, there is nothing new here, nobody should be surprised.
Funny how news of one new release spread better and faster than a dozen calls for help, quite representative of the rest of society if you ask me.

The leaking and cloning hastened a decision I would have had to take in 3 months time anyway.

Don't get me wrong, the pillage of my work by community members, if you can call them that, pisses me off big time but now it is a mixture of various things that lead me to wonder why I f#cking bother at all and consequently to consider giving the finger to all..

The Toolset has always been a private project, since day 1, I don't recall singing another tune in the past 2 years. If anyone doubts my word, they can go back to the initial release thread and read my posts.

There was no licensing to provide as nobody is supposed to have the core files, never mind reuse them or worse yet redistribute them.

Donations to **ps3xploit.com >Domain no Longer owned by team** (ps3xploit.me =new) are welcome of course but come on, I was clearly talking about the Toolset here and the Toolset has NEVER been on **ps3xploit.com >Domain no Longer owned by team** (ps3xploit.me =new) so I don't really understand the confusion if there's any. When people need to use the Toolset they find the site easily but when it's about donations, nobody remembers the URL all of a sudden, it's like people asking for donation details, they have been on the home page of both sites since day 1, lol.

Anyway..
Did I do some things wrong along the way? Yes of course.
Would I do the same thing again? Probably not.
But enough said, I don't have to justify myself and will leave any further questions or comments unanswered from now on.
The more I speak about this, the less patient I become.

it is a mixture of various things that lead me to wonder why I f#cking bother at all and consequently to consider giving the finger to all...

Because a couple of bad apples should not spoil it for all the others in the basket, a small percentage that does not represent the majority. We appreciate your work very much.

There is an expression:- "don't throw the baby out with the bath water", yes throw away the bad, but keep the good, no?
