PS3 Please add support for OFW 4.89

Because a couple of bad apples should not spoil it for all the others in the basket, a small percentage that does not represent the majority. We appreciate your work very much.

There is an expression:- "don't throw the baby out with the bath water", yes throw away the bad, but keep the good, no?
Don't we throw the baby out with the bath water as a matter of course in regards to many things, all the time?
I look around and see that we do exactly that about many things, in geopolitics, economics, history, geography, etc.., you name it.
It doesn't seem to bother anyone that much.

And anyway the leak may come from bad apple(s), but the constant lack of support comes from the barrel itself, a rotten barrel in which you can actually count the healthy fruits! Just ask STL how much help he gets from the community to keep this forum alive... Or ask Jason whether or not funding **ps3xploit.com >Domain no Longer owned by team** (ps3xploit.me =new) can be a burden. Why do you think Rebug website shut down as soon as Joonie retired? Or why is devil303.com closing down?

I see what you are saying, to be honest i come to this community to escape those things you mentioned:- geopolitics, economics, history, geography, etc, etc. Because like you say, everyone there seems to be throwing the good and the bad together in the same rubbish / trash bin.

Here is like a bubble of like minded people, outside of the crazy world we now find ourselves in. And thanks to the many devs, like yourself, and their amazing work, it has created a hub where people can gather together in safety and happiness.

Think of all the people who didn't go crazy over the last 2 years thanks to this site and what it has to offer, but without the content (like your BG Toolset and many of the dev's apps and creations) there would be nothing here. Your BG Toolset might even have saved lives, things that transcend a few bad apples. The majority of us here are not those bad apples.

It's up to you to see the glass half empty or half full, it's your choice.

To sum up:
1. They give proper credits (and links) to the original.
2. They prompt users to go to the original source first and foremost and use this only as a last resort.
3. They make it clear that the original is more reliable and this one is experimental and buggy.

What I'm trying to say here is that I don't see any need for any drama, it seems these people just wanted to have an alternative for themselves and those impatient users that can't wait and don't care about risks of bricks.
Now I understand the author not liking his tools used without his permission, but to be honest stirring up drama will probably have the opposite intended effect.
I would personally simply ignore it an move on, but of course the original developers have the last say, I'm merely giving my opinion here.

That said, I'm very happy that the developers of this awesome utilities have found a proper reaction from the community in their cry out for help and I hope this donation drive keeps on going and doesn't simply stall as a one-time moment.

Overall the Information has been edited a few times, since release.
Also if MODDING it properly you would not have bguerville's quotes at all.
He is not endorsing it, He does not have ANYTHING TO DO WITH IT. So they should not have his quotes on there about privacy and all that, Then also have his thank you messages while switching QR codes, we could go on and all,

bguerville has said they took checks out and its not what it is or should be (i guess the smart thing is just to ignore they have said it has issues?) Also the pspx team was underhanding promoting it here instead of just being open at first about it and just posting ., They did not post it here, they were going to user's messages and profile messages when user's were posting questions about 4.89. So there is alot people that do not know or understand everything that is involved.

There was really no need for such a release when we knew the update was in testing officially and that was public info and it was not just a firmware update but would of included a ton of new features.. Made sense to just do a single update officially. SINCE every console could run homebrew anyhow with PS3HEN.. so there was no need to rush something like that but when they were promoting it the way they were its telling in my opinion when they were doing it on the back burner here. . Which is sad because bguerville in this forum weeks ago offered to work with them if they were serious and offered help, no instead they went that route and still after the warnings of its danger they feel they know more then the creator because in the recent past and this release they have not tested and this toolset needs testing especially if your just guessing how it works and piecing and removing things to get it to do a function.

But the kicker is the "hacker's" of the group are not even the ones who really produced the work in "reversing" it. it was someone else they actually got it from and its not complete but patchworked together,. So its not even their original reverse of it.

We do not call out people, make warnings for nothing.,... When have we ever steered anyone wrong, Then let me follow that up how many times have we warned of misconduct.... Just sayin.

They have/had the opportunity to do right but what are they doing? Keeping it up when we know it has issues. Just because it visual looks like bguerville's toolset does not mean its that under the hood, So its misleading ...

On behalf of the PS3Xploit team & users, I would like to convey our sincere thanks to all Paypal donators for their support to date, their contributions so far have allowed the team to cover the ever growing maintenance costs.
We need your continued support if we are to keep providing the services we offer both free & ad-free. If you wish to help us, consider a donation via Paypal at team@** ** www.ps3xploit.net > Domain no Longer owned by team** (NEW URL = http://ps3toolset.com) > Domain no Longer owned by team** (NEW URL = http://ps3toolset.com or in BTC at either of the addresses below.
On behalf of the team and users of the PS3Xploit tool, I would like to express our sincere gratitude for the support until today, your tests and advice have allowed the team to respond in time and improve our potential. We need your constant moral support in the development of the project, which we are developing for free and without advertising. If you want to help us in our difficult task, take an active part in testing, and we will be very grateful to you!
You could make the point it was good on a mod they did not have the original for issues, BUT its just slash and edit to change what they wanted to promote and at end of the day that is all it was. They would not be also sneaking it around posting on user profiles but not the forum, if they were REALLY trying to help and be contributors. I never see these devs turn down legitimate help. They want to see more developer's but not ones like this. With the warnings by the creators they still think they know better.

You are free to use the tools in this project at your own risk. Keep in mind that no official support is provided, if you experience any kind of problem & find yourself in need of help, I strongly recommend that you turn to the PS3Xploit sub-forum on psx-place.com for support & guidance..You may use the tools in this project at your own risk. Please note that no official support is provided. If you run into any problems and need help, we strongly recommend that you contact the-removed- for support and guidance.
Here is a quote of bguerville (thanking Jason) that they also used:

[I sincerely thank Jason for his friendship and support, of course, but in the context of this project, and also for testing this work all year round, as needed.

The PS3 Toolkit and its GUI has been built with js based on various open source js libraries including jQuery, jQueryUI, bigInteger, jstree, mCustomScrollbar, js-logger, js-cookie, sjcl, switchButton and toastmessage, as well as Fork Awesome CSS icon library.
Thanks to all the coders involved in various projects.

Thanks to the ps3/vita scene hackers, developers, forum creators, and psdevwiki contributors who helped us get to this point.
\

Just okay to blend all Bguerville quotes and ride that reputation but yet just swap some links and steal some quotes.
The intentions were clear IMO..

Edit:
They even have the "file manager (coming soon)" Tab.
That is a feature that bgueville has not released yet. Has nothing to do with the "MOD" version.
Why would they be announcing a Future Addition that they have no control of? A bit misleading

The tab "File Manager (soon)" exists in the files copied from the dumper on July 2021.
The Russians only translated the text, removed the PayPal links and added the nofsm patch only for 4.89 (and the references in the framework js). Any attempt to use that unofficial site with 4.88 or lower will fail and may result in a brick. The text "coming soon" may have changed when it's translated back to English.

IAdding word MOD atop is not really doing it a proper mod (the webpage itself) when there is alot of quotes not by them but some edits to reflect it was by them.. its misleading.

They are pushing it as: Switching from OFW to CFW 4.80 - 4.89
There was other issue for 4.89 as well

I think they used a translator (probably google). The text is changed when you translate it back to English.
The unique modifications they made to the files from the other guy that made the dump the last year, was remove PayPal links and edit the framework to use the no fsm patch for 4.89. It has the proper sha256. But the patches for 4.80 to 4.88 don't exist in their server.

The dumper said that the files are "focused on happy path". It's almost sure that the users out of the "happy path" will have issues with any version, including 4.89.

**ps3xploit.com >Domain no Longer owned by team** (ps3xploit.me =new) is managed by esc0, it provides HEN, HAN and most other projects the team worked on at some point or other. Donations go to esc0 for **ps3xploit.com >Domain no Longer owned by team** (ps3xploit.me =new) maintenance and costs.

** ** www.ps3xploit.net > Domain no Longer owned by team** (NEW URL = http://ps3toolset.com) > Domain no Longer owned by team** (NEW URL = http://ps3toolset.com is the home of my PS3 Toolset which is my own personal project.
I just use the ps3xploit team umbrella to host it. Donations go to me for ** ** www.ps3xploit.net > Domain no Longer owned by team** (NEW URL = http://ps3toolset.com) > Domain no Longer owned by team** (NEW URL = http://ps3toolset.com maintenance and costs.
Have just donated. Keep up the good work, you are a champion!

Really, the HEN installers/enablers can be hosted on Github Pages (I have mirrors there working fine). There can also be a "wiki" page there that can host the instructions, help, etc. (these need updating on the offical site anyway).

forgive me for asking the obvious, but why do the .com and .net not merge onto 1 server to consolidate costs?
It's a fair question to ask actually.

There are historical reasons that led to the current situation.

esc0 registered the domain names with a hosting company when the initial ps3xploit team was formed, he still pays the domains and the .com hosting to them.

When the team literally split up over the HEN leak incident (leaks are like a raging STD coming back again and again lol), I decided to remove myself from the HEN project and to dedicate my time to a long term hacking project in several phases I called the PS3 Toolset, I chose to open the project to public usage and needed hosting for that.
But the hosting services esc0 uses are very expensive for certain things, and as I wanted SSL support, no unsecure communications allowed, and a number of other features including unlimited storage, bandwidth, free SSL certificates supported by the PS3 etc.., I took up a 3 year plan elsewhere and asked esc0 to point the .net domain that he bankrolled from the start but never used to the host I had selected.

esc0 pays his hosting every 3 or 6 months because he never really had funding to organise anything else, for a long time, before HEN came out, he paid everything from his own pocket..
At my end I chose a 3 year plan with another host because it was a lot cheaper and I had no funding, just my own money.

So here we are, years later.

We talked about merging some months ago BUT in order to make such plans we first needed to know whether there was a future for online presence, without donations the Toolset project public access will simply be closed so there would be no need to consider a merge at all.

But fundamentally, I believe it's the right move, and not just for the ps3xploit umbrella but for all community hosting needs. I spoke about this a few weeks ago when the devil303.com service closed down, but as usual, nothing came out of that convo despite the positive comments.
If we could guarantee funding, we could consolidate all community hosting into one unlimited contract and provide access from any domain provided by devs, secure hosting access via ftp to all vetted devs and contributors who need it, etc..

For something like this to happen, the community MUST organise, ensure minimal funds collection, it wouldn't require very much money and we could finally make longer lasting tools, without fearing dead links & the likes.

Again, at the end of the day, all this is in YOUR hands guys, as it should be, there's always a limit to what devs or contributors can do without your support.

You can be certain that at any given time, within the community, and the last 2 decades have proven that, you have a handful of skilled hackers, a few skilled devs, skilled contributors of all sorts, a few people with plenty of cash to burn, a majority of people who could spare a buck or 2 every year, other people with good connections or specific knowledge that could help with various things etc..
All these people fundamentally have the same basic needs, at the end of the day, all our devs, even the best of them who could potentially write everything they need, are just as delighted as regular users to see new homebrew or new hacks getting released.
From there, the problems I see clearly, more than anything else, are the lack of motivation and the lack of support, which really are the 2 sides of the same coin, 2 problems feeding each other in a vicious circle.
If we all pulled our resources together, we could literally make miracles, and I don't think I am overselling it.

The leaker decompiled the project's main SWF movie, probably deobfuscated the actionscript as well as his tools could, to change a couple of values then recompile the lot, he will probably have had to do that anyway if only to at least avoid the slow memory scan progress toast on every load and other loading issues.
I didn't look at the file contents to make sure of it, but I can see that its size must be about 2 or 3 times bigger than the original, from about 16kb or something like that iirc up to 48kb so I would assume it must've been recompiled one way or another.

Knowing that code as well as I do, it's quite likely that his changes, whatever they are, aren't sufficient and impact the exploitation process, making the Toolset crash (or fail) way more often than with the official 1.1.003 version (which already had a small bug that could lead to crashes on certain setups when loading, a bug now fixed in 1.2).
And yes, the firmware version would have no impact whatsoever on the crashes or failures, the situation will be exactly the same on any 4.8x.

What's the current donation status anyway? How much do you need to keep the lights on for another 3 years?
Also is that the only issue preventing the 4.89 update other things as well (I don't need it personally but this will definitely be needed if the tool is going to remain online).

In a couple of months when I'm working, I'll be donating to your running costs. Keep your chin up mate.

Food for thoughts.

In 24 months of existence, ** ** www.ps3xploit.net > Domain no Longer owned by team** (NEW URL = http://ps3toolset.com) > Domain no Longer owned by team** (NEW URL = http://ps3toolset.com received 227 bucks in donations from 29 people, I would like to express my sincerest thanks to them, it goes without saying but it's better said, you know who you are.

The ** ** www.ps3xploit.net > Domain no Longer owned by team** (NEW URL = http://ps3toolset.com) > Domain no Longer owned by team** (NEW URL = http://ps3toolset.com hosting/domain costs of the first 3 years have barely been covered by donations to date, the renewal in October is still a question mark.

During those 2 years, ** ** www.ps3xploit.net > Domain no Longer owned by team** (NEW URL = http://ps3toolset.com) > Domain no Longer owned by team** (NEW URL = http://ps3toolset.com served dozens of thousands of PS3 users all over the world with very little down time, I don't have the exact numbers in front of me right now, but it's a fair amount.
The server was attacked several times over that time and the Toolset was hacked at least once, possibly more, nothing unusual for a project that can never really be secure by nature.

I have always said that the PS3 Toolset was first and foremost a private project for the long term, the repository of the various tools I would develop on the way to attempting to gain full control of all models from OFW, that hasn't changed, the ambition is still intact.

What has changed though is that what I had hoped to be a private project whose usage would be shared with the public has become a weight on my shoulders.
Making public release worthy tools takes 10x longer or more than what I would spend for myself privately, hence the recurring delays.
If we add to this, first that funding is a constant problem because there's not enough donations to keep the project alive, and second the fact that I now also have to worry about security due to scammers, wannabes and fellow hackers redistributing and/or rebranding my code.
It's becoming a burden I am not sure I want to keep bearing alone, not forgetting Jason who gets a share of it too.

Consequently I have decided to put all public projects releases on hold for the time being while I consider my options and the fate of the PS3 Toolset project sharing concept.

The PS3 Toolset 1.2 update roll out is cancelled, it will remain private at least temporarily as I will not deploy it so it gets pillaged again..
Some might say, this will send people over to clones or whatever, I really don't care, the size of the user base has never been a priority for me so there's no down side, people will do whatever pleases them and live thereafter with the consequences of their choices, just like I do, and that seems fair to me.
As long as they understand they will have to get their tech support, updates and new features from someone else too from then on, I don't have a problem with it, good luck to them.
Finally, instead of the planned 1.2 rollout, I might just add 4.89 support to Toolset 1.1 at some point and leave things at that without fixes or new features until further notice.

As for the Toolset users, I want to say to them it's been quite fun to develop all this, some of it I made for you guys, not for me, you owe me nothing though, I wanted to give you as best I could, that was the whole point behind the extra work and all in all I am quite proud of all the progressive achievements culminating privately in Toolset 1.2.
It's been a chaotic but instructive ride, however it seems to me that we find ourselves at a crossroads, you and me all have a choice to make, the project needs help to remain online, support the project and you might see it live or don't and you definitely won't, your support or lack thereof will carry much weight in my decision.

After reading your thread, I will be donating, I did put the total amount of my donation but I have decided to edit it as this should be kept confidential. I have given a small donation now with a larger one to follow

I cannot express enough how valuable this work is.

I'm guessing we donate via the PS3exploit Web page, I hope my contribution helps and I encourage others to donate.

I donated via the PayPal link on the homepage of PS3exploit.

Which one bro, the **ps3xploit.com >Domain no Longer owned by team** (ps3xploit.me =new) one or the ** ** www.ps3xploit.net > Domain no Longer owned by team** (NEW URL = http://ps3toolset.com) > Domain no Longer owned by team** (NEW URL = http://ps3toolset.com one?

Because as Bguerville has explained in this thread, they are too separate projects run by two separate people. If someone is wanting to donate to BG Toolset by Bguerville then it's the ** ** www.ps3xploit.net > Domain no Longer owned by team** (NEW URL = http://ps3toolset.com) > Domain no Longer owned by team** (NEW URL = http://ps3toolset.com one, and if you visit that site and look under "Help and Donations" you will find the PayPal email there.

Well that's odd, on the main page it asks for donations via PayPal and it says it will help fund all the projects within PS3 exploit. Are you telling me my donation has gone to the wrong place? This is why he hasn't got many donations as everyone would donate on the main page.
