PLease help ! Can't update PS3 3001A, Error 8002F147

Hi all,

I have got ps3 slim 3001A for less than 15$, it have the issue of error 8002F147 while updating it's firmware, The system asks to install a firmware version of 4.65 or later, what i did was to download the exactly 4.65 for it. But it fails to do so when it reaches 22%. Tried to format the hdd on pc and then reinstalled it on ps3 but still the same after format of Self PS3 and on doing it on safe mode also. Googled too much but someone advised the below steps and he and others fixed it with this procedure as below :

///////////////take out the hard drive
connect hard drive to pc (running windows 7 64bit, but any windows os should work without other software)
open up disk management - in win7 it asked me to make a master book record, so I did.
format in NTSF - that's right, NTSF - don't use quick format
get the rom of whatever version you were on before you upgraded - i had to search, but i found the us 3.30 rom
copy that rom to usb drive in folders PS3 ==> UPDATE ==> put rom named PS3UPDAT.PUP here
shut down pc, take out hd, take usb drive too
put hd back in ps3, put usb stick in ps3
boot ps3
a screen will pop up. press select + start
another screen (i think) later, press select + start
configure your ps3 setup - done
I thought I was completely screwed here too, but at least got back to having a functional ps3 instead of a brick. Be nice if sony bothered to research and include the actual steps required to fix this stuff. Anyway, after doing all that, my ps3 works exactly as it did before, but I cannot update to 3.40. Tried it again using 3.40 on usb drive and had to repeat this procedure. So, I'm hoping for an update. Hope this helps any of you without costing you the 6 hours it took me.///////////////

Now the problem is with the step he advises to download the firmware that was working before this upgrade or update, So how the damn i am going to find what was the last working firmware on this console ? ANY one who can help me with this thing will be greatly appreciated as i am got hard stuck with this step. Please any kind of help will be greatly appreciated. specially if you advise how to find this consoles last working firmware version ?

you can not downgrade (install an older firmware) on that model.

So what are my options to fix this thing ? Is the case this that it had CFW before and now i am trying to flash OFW on it ? Can this be a problem ? as far i know we can flash the same OFW version on our consoles but the only thing is we will lose the jailbreak and will have official firmware.
Correct me if i am wrong.

3001A is not CFW compatible

Thanks for the reply, so it uses HEN instead am i right ? And also anything about to fix this console ?
it would use HFW (instead of OFW) and HEN. HERE is a guide.

you can look up error codes HERE. i do not understand what needs to be fixed. try HFW 4.88 from the guide. if there is no error, everything should be fine.

Thanks for the quick reply,
Could you please explain why would i use HFW as i am stucked in the updating process instead of OFW ? I think this ps3 is soft bricked. and can i install 4.88 OFW right now ? what i think is OFW is safest in situations like this, correct me if i am wrong.

Try to install the firmware on newer hard drive, it could be faulty drive.

If the problem still persists, that means there are other components becoming damaged eg. BT/Wifi module that hinders firmware update process.

from yout first post, i thought you had managed to fix it.

try 4.88 OFW. if it works, install HFW/HEN. if it does not work, post the error code. as amirzaim says, it could be a failing hard drive or other part (even the usb drive you are using may be the problem).

I already tried to install the firmware on a different HDD with no luck. Maybe u r right BT/WIFI module may have been damaged.

Check your HDD's smart using Crystal Disk Info. It's a generic error, but usually related to HDD. If both HDD you used is healthy, so it's a PS3 board problem, like BT module broken
