Hello all. I apologize for not knowing the necrobump rules here as I just joined from a reddit thread that mentioned the recovery issue with certain 3rd party controllers' PS button, and I had some free time, and curiosity, and so if this post needs to be a part of that thread instead, I can bring it up over there.
I have the remains of what was once my first-party DualShock 3 that I held onto when I found that installing a larger HDD in my ps3 slim needed a recovery file on a USB stick to install, and found that the first- party controller's PS button was all I could get to work on recovery.
I read through the thread on this forum about the patch for emer_init and found that fascinating. I don't have any particular expertise on the OS side of things, so I came here to wonder/ brainstorm about capturing and decoding the USB event that a first-party controller sends to the console when the PS button is pressed. I looked at the other proof of concept threads in the homebrew forum here and found an archive of a sixaxis dump, so maybe I should start there.
Otherwise I was thinking of possibly bit-banging the decoded USB event of the PS button press into the USB port of the console via a microcontroller like an Arduino and seeing if that's a viable method as well. There are folks out there way smarter than me, so I do wonder if this had already been attempted. And considering the age of the PS3 if there are folks at all interested in seeing what we can do for that.
Just curious if there's a way I can help out.
