PS3 Project RSX Boost: Overclock your Retail PS3 RSX Speeds (ps3 cfw only)

A long time since I logged in.
I am so great full for this.
You have awaken my interest in PS3 again.
This has helped with games that would drop fps. Too many to go into.
I have only one thing I would hope for 4.88.2 Evilnat Cobra (8.3) Custom support with 750 mhz.

Btw @M4j0r and @zecoxao can you comment something about CELL overclocking ?
Im curious to know if is technically posible, either by software or hardware

I guess the CELL speed is configured by the bootloader, and it happens at the initial config ring ?
But the bootloader is still fully secured, never was exploited so we cant modify it
Thats the reason why we cant overclock the CELL ?

Any more tests guys?

I have a CECHB and I'm very interested in this mod.

It's delidded and I get 65C @32% fan speed on heavy gaming

@zecoxao big thank you!

So I have installed on a CECHB & CECHA but I haven't done much testing aside from letting it run a bit.

Made sure to use my CECHB as it has a teensy++ installed to ensure there was no issues as I do not know anyone else with a NAND unit running this.

Been meaning to try it a bit more but working six 10 hour shifts a week doesn't leave much time for testing. That and I can't seem to get away from Elden Ring.

Mine has been delidded & upgraded the power/cooling. After 6 hours of playing my temps were quite a bit lower then yours.

That being said this was done quite a while ago and the temps dropped rapidly going into the XMB. Trying to find someone to install my Orbis chip before I really get into testing.

See: https://nitter.net/MinaRalwasser/status/1458862608384155650 (and https://pastebin.com/qy3u25Av).
The PLL value is adaptable, but the algorithm is unknown, it happens before lv0ldr.

Also that's the original RSX clock change post: https://nitter.net/MinaRalwasser/status/1497644212736692229 .
On <=0.85 you can set the RSX clock from Syscon (overwriting rom_fields), on 0.90 <= 1.82 using the older style rom_defines - every newer firmware uses the values I shared.

i can confirm this works on frankenstiens perfecly fine, had the overclocked evilnat on my 40NM A00 for a few days, only main thing ive noticed is a drastic RSX tempreture increase in some games (upwards of 10C which does seem a bit higher than the temp increase on my 90NM B01)

Is this the first BC 40nm Frankie tested with the overclocked RSX?

@PostalDude__ ...please can i ask if you did the 40nm Frankie swap yourself, or...?

These are the current temps in black ops 1 zombies, the 40NM RSX is 3-4C hotter than it would be without the OC

so far i have seen some improvements in terms of frame rate, like for ps1/ps2 seem to load faster then before... psp testing soon and project pandora will come soon...

Do you have the modified version of rebug rex 4.84 available for testing?

Installed this FW 600-750 on CECHB with delidded CELL/RSX. For improved framerate I cant say for sure, but very minor improvements. Sly Cooper Thieves in time had a few hiccups on the title menu, these were ironed out. Resident evil 5 in chapter one (opening gameplay scene) has the same fps drops, with low around 23fps with or without this mod.

Also tested GTA V, RDR with no issues but cant tell if there was any FPS improvements as I haven't tested them before the mod, though they both still get below 23 FPS in certain scenes.

For the temps, my room temps are around 17C. I noticed a rise in temp of both RSX and CELL. I have the max temp set at 65C and the fan never got beyond ~32-34, mostly stays at 30 most of the time even under heavy load. On one occasion in GTA V in the opening cinematic when Michael gets caught by the guard after collecting cash, the fan speed jumped to 34 and shortly afterwards got around 29-31.

I noticed that the CELL also gets a bit warmer than usual with this mod, but just slightly. I think a faster GPU requires it to work a bit harder.

For loading speeds I cant say anything as I dont use the PS3 often to notice any difference and also I have an SSD installed.

Just thinking about a theretical standpoint, Would an underclocked firmware be possible at all? Since i was thinking, it might be possible to undervolt a factory 90NM RSX, the same way we do on the frankenstiens, and then if unstable apply an underclocked firmware, This would lower power consumption and lower the thermal outout of the 90NM RSX, therefore increasing its life span.

saying that idk if a 90NM RSX will even boot at 0.95V, but then again this was just a thought.
